:help: I've been vegan for 2 months now (w00t!), and physically I feel great...I feel very clean and balanced...just great. I've not seen any ((negative)) physical changes, except for my complextion.

Shortly after becoming vegan I made these brownies...mainly just melted chocolate with a lil' flour...and I ate my share of them; my face (forehead, mainly) will vouch for that. A friend told me that eating a lot of chocolate really DOES make one break out...okay...so a month later the PROBLEM still has not gone away!! I haven't been eating that much chocolate lately...I've pretty much done away with "junk" food (practically all by vegan default), so what gives??

My mom read in a book about raw foodism that 2-3 months after the author had been on the diet, her skin broke out like it hadn't in years (she was well past puberty). And though I'm not a raw-foody, I'm close enough I guess....so I was wondering for those of you who are relatively "new" to veganism (like you've only been at it for a few months), or for those of you who have done it for a while if you remember, did you break out? Should I just give it another month or so, chalking it up to toxins being released and that my skin will clear up? I was blessed (or so I thought) with a really decent complexion, until now! :grr: I don't like it. I don't know if I should be seeing a dermatoligist or not!! :help:

:nigel: No cheers for blemishes.

I don't know. When I was a teenager, I went for a year without eating any chocolate or drinking any Cokes. It made no difference.

I eat plenty of chocolate, and my skin is perfectly blemish-free. Not everybody reacts the same.

Still, I would probably wait a little before seeing a dermatologist. In the meantime, pay attention to stuff like: new soap, shampoo, hair styling products, cleansers, stress level, etc.

I have been eating healthy vegan for about 2 months after an atrocius diet and let me tell you that whenever I slip up and eat something I shouldn't my skin reacts and shows the effects for up to three days afterwards mainly with zits. So, I do not think it is impossible.

Every time I read something on skin myths it claims the chocolate has nothing to do with acne.

I tend to have bad skin. Everyone has been telling me it could be due to a lack of healthy fats such as omega 3s. I'm sure its a common problem among people wishing to eat healthier. They cut down on fats ... sometimes too much so. If you are getting enough EFAs, I'd guess you could have an allergy to either something you are eating or some cosmetic or cleanser you have been using. I think the brownie incident is a coincidence.

Hmm...well hooray for me being able to eat brownies with abandon... :sealed:

Mm... I don't generally wear make-up atoll (if I do, it's eyeliner/shadow/glitter)... and only recently have I started using a facial cleanser (trying to get rid of this crap!) so...I don't know. I guess all I can do is wait in frustration

/sigh
