Apparently the chat room wasn't working for several of you tonight. I was able to get in so I'm not sure what the problem is. Hopefully we'll get it taken care of by next week.

Was anyone else able to get in tonight?

I couldn't even load the chat then ..
.. and while i'm at it, i'd like to make a lil suggestion concerning the chat - i just think it would be nice to have a chat that can be accessed via irc programs like mirc or pirch, for those of us who use computers/browsers that don't "do" java, or we personally don't like using java clients - such as myself - i like chatting, just not through java.
One such place that offers such a chat is http://www.webmaster.com .. i'm sure there's others out there as well, i'm just personally quite familiar with this one... i don't know how their java client compares to the one you're already using, but.. this is just a lil suggestion :)

I got it to work on and off tonight. I'm going to see about installing one of those IRC chats on the board. I have the instructions on how to do it but can't get into my FTP right now. And I want to check with Robert before I do it.

Anyway, I am still working on it.

We're in the process of setting something up through IRC. If you have a program like mIRC you'll be able to use that to chat. If you don't, and don't want to download it, we'll have a java version on the site. Not sure when this'll be up and running, we have a few things to straighten out first. Hopefully by this weekend.

I'll make a formal announcement once it's all up and running. In the meantime you can download mIRC here...

It says $20 to buy but you don't have to buy it to use it. You just get a "please register" screen when you first log on.

And I'd like to thank OZ for the idea. I wish I had done this a month ago when she first suggested it. ;)

Yeah, kudos to ObsidianZebra and Ceryna for what they've done with it tonight.

I personally hate JAVA apps myself so am quite happy to see OZ's suggestion on using a chat that provides a choice to the user (JAVA or IRC-accessible).

May be as long as 10-12 days. Even once we get it going I'll have to write up some instructions and a little help section. I promise it will be worth the wait. :)

ObsidianZebra and Ceryna are both playing (and will continue to play) a key role in this so I'd like to thank them as well. :)

Hey, I guess they're right. Newbies, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose.

"Check out the 'having trouble with chat' thread. New chat room is coming in a week or two. "

Oh Michael! No one knows if there is any chatroom at all today, or if it's totally vapourised. I can't even find a link to a malfunctioning chatroom to learn it isn't working.

Sorry, there is no chat right now. The new one will be worth the wait. :)

Just wanted to update you on what's going on. The big delay to this point has been getting our channel approved. The process could have taken 10-12 days but we were approved after just a few. :)

I think we still have a few loose ends to tie up. I'm really hoping we can get it all up and running by Sunday night. If so, the chat will be at the usual time - 9:00pm EST.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend you go to the link above and download mIRC. The on-site java interface will work fine but mIRC will be considerably faster and (a lot) more stable.

If you have questions please feel free to post them here.

We're going to test it out a little more Saturday night but it sounds like we're good to go for our regular Sunday night (9:00pm EST) chat.

Once again, if you haven't already downloaded mIRC it is highly recommended that you do so using the link above. It won't be required because we will have an on-site interface but it is a lot quicker and a lot more stable. OZ is working on some very basic mIRC isntructions. We'll post those and how to connect using mIRC sometime prior to the chat.

Michael

The channel is #veggieboards and the server is WorldIRC (I think that's it).

With_Open_Eyes: the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a server network containing a ton of servers that are connected together. Each network usually has hundreds, or even thousands of users. The names are registered and reserved for each specific network, not just a single channel. In this way, having a registered name allows you to keep it and be assigned it anytime you login to that network and the name is used for any of the channels you frequent. This, of course, beats having to registered a new name for each channel you visit.

For example, I was unable to reserve "Robert"... so I ended up reserving RC. Someone else owns Robert so I cannot use it.

To change your name, if it conflicts with a registered name, you can just type /nick newnamehere (replacing newnamehere with whatever other alternate nick you want to use).

Hope this helps.

Strange that a name like that would be taken and not a name like Michael.

I got disconnected from the chatroom, and now I can't get back in.

Michael
March 9th, 2003, 12:54 AM
VK did too but now she's back. Are you using mIRC or the one on the site?

BigWaxJesus

The one on the site.

It connects me for a split second, then kicks me off again.

That one sucks. I have no idea. Can you download mIRC?
