As someone who's just recently decided to do my part to be eco-friendly in what goes into my septic tank, would someone please help me with the following?

I heard on a morning radio show that we do more damage to the environment by what comes out of our clothes washing machines than anything else. Is this because of phosphates in laundry detergent? If so, I'm covered on that end because I now use Method. But I'm wondering about my dishwasher detergent. I know for a fact that it isn't tested on animals, but it does contain phosphates.

So again, specifically I need help finding out if it's the phosphates that are the eco-terrorists, and if so, what dishwasher detergents don't use them. If not, what are the baddies to look out for? Thanks for any help.

:hi:

This is an excellent link that will answer that question, and also inform you about many more chemicals. I buy a lot of products from this company, from toilet paper to dishwasher detergent. Yes, the phosphates are to blame.
