Alright, i'm now getting into my Flax for the first time in my life today. I bought a bag of whole seeds and plan on grinding them up and putting them in something. What I want to know is how much is a good amount everyday? That back of the package says 3 Tbsp (30g) of whole seeds. I plan on taking these 3 Tbsp, grinding them up and adding them to my sandwich. Is this a fine amount for the day? Lety me know your thoughts :).
Cheers.

I've heard that 2 TBSP ground up equals about 3 TBSP whole so 2T should be fine. You can sprinkle them on anything you like from sandwiches to cereal to soup.

I usually read that 2 Tbsp of ground flaxseed is a good amount per day.. which might be around equal to 3 Tbsp to whole flaxseeds..
eta: ok well just saw MollyCat's post.. and realized I said almost the same thing :| anyway yeah I use it in my cereal.. it doesn't really mess with the taste like it might with a lot of other things.)

When I ground up 3 Tbsp Whole Flax Seeds...it came out to 4 Tbsp? I measured it exactly to the gram also. So, should I only use 2 tbsp of the ground up kind or 4 tbsp? I'm confised now heh. I'm going to put it into my smoothie later tonight :D. Thanks!
Cheers.

Weird, I thought it would be less not more. Everywhere I read it's recommended that people take like 2-3 tablespoons (ground) a day. I don't think 4 would hurt though.

doesn't the flax get lighter in powder form so you'd need more to weigh the same as the non ground? i'm probably wrong though.
It's two tablespoons worth of ground :) when it's ground it's more compact (that's how i see it anyways) so you should measure less than the whole version - if that makes sence.

I wrote a review for this very well researched book by an RD at amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0971230404/qid=1107731898/sr=2-3/ref=pd_ka_b_2_3/104-0979908-4675101
It recommends 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed a day.
I like it best stirred into oatmeal.
I also put hot rice and beans on top of it
I have also dropped it into a soup bowl before eating.
Mix it in a big cup with protein powder, sweetenerm and plain cocoa for an awesome treat

Well, I used 3 tbsp of the ground up kind because it came out to 195 calories and thats what I needed to finish of my smoothie. Has anyone experimented with it in a smoothie? I hope it doesn't change the taste for the worst heh. Thanks for all the info.
Cheers.

Ground up flaxseeds oxydize very quickly, if you have the means to ground up the seeds be yourself the seeds will keep fresh for a longer period.
