Do you see old/waste computers being trashed around and dumped ? Do you also see IT components being trashed in your area ? If yes, what can be the possible reason behind this ?
Please share your experience. Any other related info./sites welcome.
Thanks.

I got my current computer from a dumpster. Someone just threw it out. It works fine. I guess they just wanted a better one. BTW, there are a number of organisations that recycle computers for the poor and disadvantaged.

Hey wow !! Imagine finding a PC in a dumpster. What kind of a PC is it, if you don't mind, share the specifications.
Also what are these organizations that recycle used PCs for the needy ? Please share their sites.
Thanks.

It is a Pentium II 333 megahertz, with 128meg of RAM, a 15" screen, and a zip drive. Not the greatest, but pretty good for free, especially since I had no computer at all at the time.
Technical Aid for the Disabled does it in Aus, http://www.technicalaidnsw.org.au/ I've given them a couple of old computers. They are a great organisation. I know there is one here in Aus that sends computers to third world countries, but I don't know it's name offhand. I don't know any overseas charities, but I'm sure some searching could find some.

I also know that some organisations recycle the precious metals from even older and non working computers, but again, I'd have to ring people to get the information.

Thats totally awesome!
Anyways, I have a friend who took a bunch of old computers and wired the processors together so they'd run as one collective machine. (he calls it Butch) It takes up a quarter of his basement, yet Butch runs just under 9 ghz.
Some people make art with the circuit boards and stuff too. I'm sure the recycling dept would accept alot of the parts. Though, if it isn't stone age ancient it might be cool to donate to someone.
