Hi everyone,

Does someone know how to make organic vegan soap, lip balm, shampoo and/or skin lotion?

As a student, I can't spend all my money on vegan things, so I think by making them, I will save some money.

Any comments will be appreciated :)

Peace out

Mathieu

I've checked into making my own soap. There are several sites online that tell you how if you do a Google search. However, there is a "curing" process that takes 4 weeks. So it's not like you can make soap tonight and use it tomorrow. You'll have to wait a month to use anything you make.

I've tried making my own soap and it was pretty lackluster. You'll need a meticulous scale for measuring out your oils and lye. You'll need to know which oil combinations to use. Coconut oil makes for a great lathering soap but too much of this oil will dry your skin out and cause the bars to be brittle, so you'll probably have to combine it with palm oil for stability and olive oil for skin conditioning. You will have to use lye (sodium hydroxide) to mix with the oils to make soap and that alone is a big turn-off if you have animals or children in your house, and can be extremely hazardous in itself. I wouldn't recommend it, it was a big headache and I ended up spending a LOT of money trying to perfect the craft. I would have been better off personally and financially if I'd just bought my soap every week or two from the health foods store!:)

Don't let all of that discourage you though, that was just my experience. Good luck if you decide to go for it!:)
