View Full Version : Flabby belly after weight loss?

Since I lost a lot of weight, my stomach and arm skin have been all flabby and mushy. I hate it! Whenever I excercise, it helps tone my muscles, but the skin still looks limpy and mushy. Does anyone else have this problem? I look as if I had a baby or something. My belly isn't "fat" anymore, but it is certainly not reflecting what the scale says. It looks gushy and nasty.

You still have skin leftover that was stretched to accomodate there being more of you. Apparently you lost weight quite quickly? If you keep working out, eventually that skin will tighten up, I believe. It just takes time for your body to adapt to the changes.

I worry about that too if I ever lose this weight. Even if it tightens up, it will have stretch marks all over the place so I won't be much more attractive than if I just stayed fat <sigh> I f'n hate my body

I have the same problem. I lost a lot of weight pretty quickly before I got pregnant so I had the extra skin hanging around already. It only got worse after I had my son. I don't know if there's hope for me anymore which just sucks because I had aspired to become a porn star
Oh well....

well i dunno about the porn star....but ive heard it takes a qhile before all the stretch marks and the hanging skin to go away although ive heard of people going to extreme measures as doing surgery. i guess the best option would be to do workouts with weights to tone your muscles and wait for the skin to catch up with the new body it suddenly is seeing.

If you are under 30 your chances of your skin eventually shrinking back up are good, but the older you get the less likely you are to have a satisfactory restoration without surgery.
I'm 54, lost 80 lbs in 4 years. My arms aren't all that flabby, but I have more skin hanging around the top of my thighs than you would ever believe. I have a waist line, I can touch the top of my hip bones with no trouble, but Lordy, Lordy I can be deformed looking or face a really serious surgery. We won't even talk about my thighs.
I have heard that the Shriners Children's Hospital in Shrieveport, LA will do free skin reduction surgeries to harvest the live tissue for the burn victims. I don't know how true that is, but it would be worth looking into.

Well, it's not that I have extra skin per se, it just looks like a pouch between my skin and my muscle. It's mushy. :spew:

Sit ups seem to tone my tummy, I've fallen out of the habbit, as our house is overrun with guests at the moment, but I used to do 50 sit ups before lunch and that helped make it shrink. Also press ups would help your arms tone up. My tae kwon do, with lots of punching and sit ups is doing wonders!

You will want to do a variety of ab work to get your tummy back into shape. The tummy is especially hard for women to get back into shape. You will want to figure out a workout routine and stick to it for a long time.
I would be glad to help with some exercises if you would like. I'm not around much, so if I forget to post it here PM me.

As of now, I do the elliptical, which does work my tummy a little since I feel the burn. I stretch a lot and lift very light weights. I have an ab roller, but I'm not exactly sure how to use it. :help:

i have the same problem...lost 35 pounds very quickly after i had my daughter. mine's a pouch too. i work out a lot and it hasn't gone away. at my physical, the doc told me that exercise won't do much, but drinking a TON of water will help it. it improves the elasticity of your skin. all i drink is water, so i just just drink more now and it seems to be helping. hope this helps!

I have the same problem, but it's on my, er, rear. It's not that bad, but I want to have the butt of a 20 year old again! (I'm 20) I wonder if there are any creams or anything that would help, other than just the water...
Edit: I just found some stuff from Kiss my Face.

I'm thinking of trying it, has anyone else?

My butt has that too! I've been using firming lotion from the HFS, but I forget the brand. It's helped a tad, I GUESS.

Slynny...I'd love to see what you have too. :) Not to be the bringer of gloom and despair, but I think sometimes the only thing that may remedy the situation is a scalpel. :(
