I saw it last night. Whew! What an excellent movie!
Don Cheadle gave the most moving preformance. The lead actress, can't remember her name, but she was steller as well.
Nick Nolte was good. I'm glad he was playing a fictious character loosely based on Gen. Romeo Dallaire, as Nick would not have been a good choice to play Romeo.

my mom saw this a couple of weeks ago and called me the moment she got home, crying. she said it was so unbearably horrible and sad and that she couldn't believe so much horror had happened there while the rest of the world basically turned their backs. she claims she cried for two days afterwards. so i've been avoiding seeing it. i am emotional enough these days. did you find it really hard to watch?

I didn't, but mostly because I knew a lot about it and, being married to someone in the military, etc, it was talked about a lot. So, I wasn't shocked. It was what I expected. The city fighting was well done, as was the mass refugee exodus shots.
If you're overly sensitive to violence towards children, I would recommend you rent it on DVD when available and fastforward a few places.

Kreeli...this is a fantastic film, but I found it VERY difficult to watch. I nearly left the theater. It has a very Schindler's List/Dances With Wolves/In the Name of the Father feel...great films that leave your heart aching.
Sophie Okonedo, the female lead was good, but Don Cheadle was *very* good. :) I hope he takes home Oscar in a few weeks.

Thanks, Jen. I couldn't remember her name :)
If you haven't read/discussed a lot about the genocide, I can see why it would be so difficult to watch. It still left me heavy hearted, but it ended on such a high note, that I still left happy for some of them.

There was a documentary at Sundance that I believe won one of the doc awards:
"Shake Hands With The Devil: The Journey of Romeo Dallaire"

It's based on RD's book (the same title).
The title comes from a discuss w/ a padre. The minister asked him how he could still believe in God. He said, "I know there is a God, because in Rwanda I shook hands with the devil."
