*is shaking* i really don't like seeing injured or dead things unless i can help.. theres a poor cat in our garden (it reminds me of my old cat that went missing), i wondered why my cat was looking down in a certain spot from the shed and wouldn't move off the shed when i left her in - thought she hunting a mouse again or a leaf or something.

it's got a collar on but i couldn't see a tag, i daren't move the poor thing. If it hasn't got a tag would i have to take it to the vets to see if it's got a microchip? I really don't know what to do now, poor little thing.. if i were awake earlier it might have been alive and i would have been able to take it to the vets..

i feel sick..
Thanks for your help

((sorry to bring anyones mood down))

We found a cat recently who had been hit by a car. He had a collar but no tag. We moved him off the road, my neighbour buryed him. We put notices up in local shops giving our condolances and a description of the cat. Perhaps we should have taken him to the vet, it never occured to us.

I think also call your local humane society and give a description so if the owners are looking for her at least they will know what happened.

I don't know where you live, but around here the pet cemetary will cremate strays for free. Typically what happens is you just bring the animal in (black garbage bag will do, tied up, or a box), and they'll hold it in the freezer for a week or two waiting to see if owners turn up, then just send it to the cemetary for cremation. Its actually illegal to bury animals in your yard around here (not that you even could right now since there's a foot of snow before you even get to the frozen ground, and you are supposed to dig at least 5 ft down before burying an animal to prevent wild animals from getting to it and spreading disease). Call your vet's office and ask what to do. They'll probably be more familiar with local procedure on such things.

The vet clinics I've worked at would take remains of strays for cremation at no charge, seems better than leaving bodies all over the place. When I was living in the Caribbean I got to experience first hand the decomposition process and it was not pleasant. At least the owner will not wonder for years about the fate of thier kitty.
