Vegan Multi Vitamins at WalMart

I almost passed out but yesterday while doing my shopping I found New multi-vitamins at the WalMart. Vegan vitamins. No animal ingredients, no dairy or milk derivatives, no gelatin, no preservatives, no artificial flavors or colors. :vebo:

They are Spring Valley Naturally Complete multivitans and they even say right on the package "Formulated for vegetarians and healthy lifestyles"

I'd hate to be a killjoy, but I doubt they're vegan. Probably just vegetarian as they are labeled, which is still better than nothing. Although I'm vegan in every other way I can be, I still take a vegetarian multi because vegan multis are prohibitively expensive for me.

I've checked those out a couple of times. At Wild Oats I seem to remember them being almost twice that amount on sale! Where do you get yours?

That's what I meant by saying the ones at Walmart are probably vegetarian, not vegan. For some reason animal-derived nutrients are still considered vegetarian in vitamins. It usually just means there's no gelatin involved.

The VegLife one a day multis (60 day supply, iron free) are carried at most health related stores. If they do not have them in stock, I am sure they can order them for you in most cases. Also, I think you can buy them online, too.

In my area, they are carried at a few stores (Good Earth, Georgetown Market, and Natures Market). Wild Oats does not cary the one a day multi but do carry the more expensive one (90 tablets, $22.00) that contains iron and require you to take four a day (along with other varities).

I checked them out very thoroughly. All of the ingredients which are sometimes suspect like stearic acid and magnesium stearate are accompanied by the word (vegetable).

I think they use the word vegetarian because it is more common. And the really great part? Bottle of 100 for $5.94. I am doing the happy dance.

Walmart is the only option, or the only affordable shopping option for many people.

Luckily I live in an area with many other discount stores so I don't have to shop at walmart.

Walmart does so many horrible and evil things.

Having vegan vitamins is not enough to get me to shop there.

All of these huge retail oriented corporations do something evil in some way. I still will pick up soymilk and at times spring water from Wal-Mart because it is near where I work and is nicely priced. As far as I know, Whitewave does not use sweat shop slave labor to produce their Silk soymilk line. Whereas buying other items at Wal-Mart may fall under that unethical category. Unfortunately, sweat shop products are hard to avoid (not saying that it cannot be done and I commend folks who avoid them).

I knew it wouldn't be very long before someone jumped in with a why would you shop at WalMart comment. Whenever someone starts off with I don't mean any offense it's usually because actually, they do. Whatever follows that comment by it's very nature is meant to provoke offense.

Organic light soymilk
Organic chocolate soymilk
Organic vegetables
Soycream
Swanson veggie broth
Vegetables without animal wax
Red Pepper Hummus
Hormel Vegetarian Chili
Bush's Vegetarian Baked Beans
Brown Rice (all other stores carry white and instant ONLY)
no added sugar peanut butter
nuts and beans in bulk
garden harvest rice
new mexico chiles in bulk
Garlic marinated tofu
Light tofu
silken tofu
Extra firm tofu
soyrizo
organic sprouts
rice pasta

and now, vegan vitamins

I'm not giving up all of these things and animal free fresh organic vegetables just to appease other people notions of where I should shop. :whack:

It is not about appeasing other people.

There is the assumption that if someone can do something to avoid contributing to a lesser world that they would want to know information that would help them do it.

That is the spirit in which information about walmart is offered.

We are all adults, we all know the world is in such a tremendous mess such that it is not practically possible to live 100% non-injuriously towards others.

I'm sorry if I sounded too snarky. It just gets old, really, really old, defending oneself. Like FFR said, ALL these big corporations do evil. You shop and/or purchase things/services from evil people too, I'm sure of it.

All anyone need do to learn about the evils of WalMart is turn on a TV (oops another evil) or open a newspaper. (oops there we go agin, more evil) WalMart is the netizens new Microsoft, the company that's "cool" to hate, even though it makes no sense to hate WalMart any more than KMart or OfficeMax or a hundred other benificiaries of a corrupt and unjust system.

I am happy that people care about injustice in the world, but it makes much more sense to take the fight to the source than to randomly choose one company in hundreds that takes advantage of a skewed and ugly system.

Vegistan--thanks for letting us know about the vegetarian vitamins! I'll have to see if my Wal-Mart carries them. I agree with you too about having to shop there. I get most of my produce, bread, and cheese elsewhere, but our local WM has the best selection of veggie products in my area (I'm talking like 30 miles or so)--soy cheeses, Boca products. Their soymilk and tofu are substantially cheaper than anywhere else local. They're also the only store in the area that carries cage free eggs.
