Oh so yummy. Remember those Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake bars? Yeah. Just like them. Just as yummy. It made me think of summer.

The ingredients list looks pretty vegan to me but I am confused about mono and diglycerides. Are those not vegan? I hope not. These are too good. It's junk food but it looks to be vegan friendly junk food.

Sometimes you need it.

ETA: per the Tofutti web site: all frozen desserts are 100% vegan. The mono and di-glycerides are veg based. YAY!!!!!!!!!! I love their products.

All plant and animal derived oils are made of triglycerides, monoglycerides, and diglycerides (mostly anyway). So the short answer is, they can be plant or animal derived. The long answer is that while Tofutti is not a vegetarian food company, and their primary market is not vegetarian, they seem to be sensitive to the vegetarian and health conscious customers and given that I would think they would go with vegetable glycerides, since they are available. I suspect if you shoot an email to a customer service rep they can tell you.

ETA: They are vegetable mono and diglycerides. This is addressed in the tofutti FAQ (http://www.tofutti.com/index.php?id=2#96)

Who cares? Junk food is supposed to be junky.

I care.

That is why I asked.

I am not telling anyone else not to eat it.

I just personally refuse to eat anything that I know to be damaging to my health in the ways that corn syrup and hydrogenated oils are.

Organic Vegan Pecan Pie, Organic Dark Chocolate, Organic Potato Chips made with good oils  those are "junky" foods I will eat.

Hydrogenated oils and corn syrup? No thanks. It doesn't work for me.

Hey, I found them in the brave, odd, little overpriced "healthfood" section of the Safeway's here in the Good Old East Bay. And yeah, Fox. They got the evil stuff in like the Corn syrup but I would not recommend you build your core diet around things from the Tofutti line. I'm just excited that if I am PMSing and ***require*** some damned junk food I can scratch my itch without hurting anyone but myself.

Junk food has definitely got its place. It's comforting. I gave up so much crappy food and yeah, i'll be honest: some of it I miss. When I find something that I can substitute for it that is ethically sourced and actually tastes like some small slice of my youth I go for it. Why the hell do I work out 5 times a week if I can't eat something crappy here and there.

I have been crusing the Food Fight site and there's more junk food for vegans than I realised. Vegan marshmallows? Sign me up!!!

Re: Vegan Marshmallows

Because I am a Marshmallow Snob. The ones that Pangea, Vegan Essentials, and Food Fight sell are awful, in my opinion.

Try ordering your marshmallows from Tiny Trapeze Confections. They make both vegan and non-vegan marshies... But they know their stuff. They come in vanilla and chocolate flavor, and they are DELICIOUS.

Plus, I don't think there's any bad for you goop in 'em.

I do not think there is a weight issue with consuming corn syrup and hydrogentad oil. It has more to do with the ill effects hydrogenated oil has on the body itself health wise.

I do not consume it myself. However, I am glad that you find comfort in vegan junk food on occasion. I do eat "junk food" but it is actually healthy "junk food" because what I consume vegan snack wise contain, non-hydrogentated oil, no artificial flavors/colors/preservatives, and whole grains. It definitely does the trick.
