I'll start. Am I the only person on the planet who is grossed out by Oprah? She is waaaay too in love with herself. John Travolta -same thing. ICK. They both think they are soooo generous...hmmm NOT. Gweneth Paltro...she is not hot and Shakespear In Love bit! Oscar my arse! And Kate Hudson in Almost famous...they had to get an ugly girl to play the girlfriend of the rocker, so Kate could be the hot one. Don't you hate nepatism? Goldie was hot and had "it" but Kate doesn't, in my opinion.
Now for the under-rated:
Nicole Kidman - what a bod! Great actress!
Steve Buscemi in everything he has ever done! (Esp. Fargo and The Wedding Singer)
David Cross - super funny!
Will Ferrell (I sure miss his Bush) Did anyone catch the one where "Bush" was laying on the couch batting a ball like a kitty?
Mike Meyers - as Wayne and Austin especially.
Kathy Griffin - when she does stand up...she is super funny!
Sponge Bob (although it is not under-rated)

Over-rated - Tom Hanks
Under-rated - William H. Macy, Julianne Moore, and Sean Penn come to mind.

Over-rated: without question, Alicia Silverstone. Ought to be some sort of law passed prohibtiing her from making movies.
Under-rated, I think Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, Kevin Spacey and Tom Berenger are often overlooked (because they are in a "supporting" role in many cases), yet usually provide very good performances.

Amen! Add Spielberg to that list, while you're at it!
Also overrated (according to max)...
Quentin Tarantino
Paul Thomas Anderson
Jack Black (although Tenacious D is money)
Nicole Kidman (sorry, mushroom, she's talented, but she's really just another it-girl of the moment)
Underrated:
Jean-Pierre Jeunet (City of Lost Children, Delicatessin, Amelie)
Benicio Del Toro
Brian Posehn (horrible stand-up comedian, but a great comedy writer: http://www.bobanddavid.com/mrshow_archive/pages/posehn.html )
While I'm at it, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross should be the funniest people on Earth.

Also over-rated Barbara Walters...
and I agree about Tom Hanks, but I love Jack Black...

Here's why I don't like Jack Black as much now: I remember the original Tenacious D episodes and shows! They were SO ****ing kickass!!!! Odenkirk and Cross wrote them. They were just so kickass and nothing Black has done since then has been nearly as kickass.

So underrated. I just watched his latest and was more moved than any other video I've seen in years. It his cover of Hurt by NIN. Very Very moving.
http://www.markromanek.com/video/14_lg.html
Be forewarned that his takes longer than usual to load. It took me about 4 min through DSL...of course if you have dial-up it's gonna take alot longer.
But it is so well worth it.
Johnny Cash is My Hero!
Betty Davis Rules TOO!

Johnny Cash did a NIN cover? wiggy.
overrated:
Nicole Kidman (i don't think she's THAT attractive or a particularly good actress, IMO),
Nicholas Cage (i like some of his movies but not cause of him, he always plays roles i would never picture him in and it doesn't work)
Jennifer Lopez
George Clooney (always has the same smirk no matter what he's playing, just always makes me think of him in ER)
underrated:
Keannu :lick:
entire cast of Gilmore Girls and the show in general
Jarvis Church
Finger Eleven

I totally agree that Julia Roberts and paltrow are over rated. looks wise and acting wise.
Underrated I agree with Michael-Under-rated - William H. Macy, Julianne Moore, and Sean Penn. Sean Penn especially. He is a really great actor, he deserves way more praise. His acting in the game, Sweet and Lowdown, and dead man walking (to name a few) was just great. I will ad John Ritter to the list. Too bad he is most famous for a lot of stupid comedy. But not only is he good a stupid comedy, but in all of his drama roles I've seen him in (like sling blade and guest appearances on TV) he's very good.
I will also add to underrated- most of the actors on The Practice. They do very well with the over dramatized cheesy story lines they are given.

Thalia - I haven't seen any of those Sean Penn movies, I guess I should. I always wanted to see Dead Man Walking but just never have. And once it left the new release shelf I kind of forgot about it.
As you know, John Ritter was in Problem Child 2 (and 1), one of my favorite movies. :) I loved him on Three's Company, it's really too bad he didn't have more of a career, I have to think that's by choice - maybe he took a break or maybe he was typecast after Three's Company.

Tina Fey rules. I don't think SNL has been all that bad the last few seasons. Their political stuff (Crossfire? Gore? McCain?) has been halarious!

kirk, what is full metal challenge?
and I can't believe I forgot this one:
Harry Potter... WAY overrated!
By the way, I think Julia Roberts is beautiful, but she can't act for ****! We coined a phrase for her type; "movie model"

Overrated-- just about any popstar who tries to act in a movie. Mandy Moore did a passable job in A Walk to Remember, but she only barely made the grade, IMHO.
Underrated-- Kelly Vrooman. I know, you've never ever heard of her. She's probably the best actress to ever grace the stage at my college. Know what? She's a vegetarian. I know this because she is one of my friends, although she is not one of my closest friends.

Overrated: Reality programming. Any TV show that has scenes set in a morgue. Paris Hilton. The Simpson sisters (not "The Simpsons" cartoon versions, the other cartoon versions). And (I might get flamed for this) "God Bless America". That song is the reason why Woody Guthrie wrote "This Land is Your Land".
Underrated: PBS's Nova. I find any episode of that infinitely more interesting than at least 3/4 of everything else on TV. I also agree that Ving Rhames is underrated.

Underrated: Cracker with Robbie Coltraine
Underrated: Anime from Netflix.
