..the kind that is all mushy in the mushy tube. You have to roll into a patty yourself, which I did not care for..BUT HOLY MOLY it tastes almost EXACTLY like real sausage..I actually started to spit it up and re-check the package to be sure it was not real..I thought I made a mistake!
If you miss meat..or the taste of it with your breakfast..this stuff is EXACTLY LIKE SAUSAGE..unlike any other faux -meat product.
Very tasty! :vebo: It would be great in a egg-scramble or a tofu-scramble..

The sausage flavor is very very real, my step dad mixed it up with his real sausage and never noticed, lol. Don't try the beef flavor though, that stuff is discusting and ruins anything you put it in.

I've made a hash with the sausage, tofu scramble, and fried cubed potatoes, and it was so good.

How do you prepare it? I have some, but haven't made it. Maybe I'll have some for breakfast tomorrow!

my DH makes the BEST biscuits & gravy with gimme lean.
Basically, you fry up the sausage (crumbled) in a skillet with some minced onion, then put it in a bowl & set aside. Then you make a roux in the skillet (canola oil & flour - 1/3 cup each), stirring until it's light brown, then add a whole box of unsweetened soymilk (not "plain" but unsweetened), some sage, cracked pepper... then add the sausage/onions back in and cook until relatively thick. Then pour over biscuits (buttermilk ones are the best - even made with vegan 'buttermilk' (soymilk + vinegar)). oh so tasty. especially when you have a hangover. so I've heard. :o

Jes, it's definitely best to fry it in a pan alone until it's done (or 95% done) and then add it to whatever you're eating (with hamburg, I remember my mom only cooking it halfway before adding it to whatever we were eating, but that doesn't work with Gimme Lean.)

Yeah, but what the heck do you eat it with? Eggs? Do you serve it on the side? I bought it because I supposed I should like meat substitutes. But I don't think that I realized I never actually liked meat all that much.

PS, my family is all excited to have GimmeLean tomorrow! Too bad they don't know that I don't know what to do with it. SPECIAL!

I do the sausage gravy over biscuits thing too. Only I add mushrooms to the mixture.

I made breakfast burritos with this stuff, along with tofu scramble. I cut the sausage into little bite sized chunks and browned them in a skillet, then mixed them in with some tofu scramble I had already prepared. Wrap the mixture up in a flour tortilla and voila! Best breakfast burrito ever. ^^

I finally broke down and bought some just now. Power permitting (stupid storm), I'm going to have sausage patties for breakfast tomorrow.

Wow. This sounds great. I'll have to pick some up soon. I imagine it might be good in pasta sauce, too.

And even better if you fry up some potato cubes and add that to your burrito as well! (And a squirt of ketchup! :lick: )

I can get behind the potato part, but ketchup? Even with tofu scramble, that would be too much like ketchup on eggs, which is a SIN! (In the south, anyway. I actually don't feel strongly one way or another.)

That's exactly why I put the ketchup there! When I grew up, in Vermont, we'd have scrambled eggs every Sunday before church, and the ketchup was on the table religiously, like a member of the family. :D

Me and gimmie lean sausge style are buddies, man. I crumble some up in a skillet with a bit of cooking spray and cook it until it's done, then scramble up some tofu, onions, and peppers. Mix all together, throw in a flour tortilla with shredded vegan gourmet and a bit of salsa..MMMM boy.
Or I use it for my spaghetti sauce for my lasagna if I'm really in the mood to cook.
I wonder why the ground beef style is so gross though?

I made some patties with it this morning. I liked them, but I think that the Yves sausage patties are better.

Hold the phone, Ceryna! I'm from the south (west) and grew up eating ketchup on my scrambled eggs. I don't like them any other way-tho I'm not eating eggs these days at all. I have come to realize that it isn't very common, though.

Strange. I find the Yves patties peppery and spicy...I just wish that they weren't so small...
