Hey, California!
Letters Needed to Provide Vegetarian Options in Schools
Barbara Gates in front of the California Capital
Barbara Gates, of Project Healthy Beginnings (http://www.veggieschoollunches.com/), recently persuaded California Assemblyman Joe Nation to introduce a resolution to include vegetarian options in public school lunches. A summary of the resolution is:
“Urging the State Departments of Health Services, Food & Agriculture, Education and the California School Food Services Association to develop nutritionally sound menu plans that will include at least one daily plant-based vegetarian entree as part of the free and reduced price school lunch program; and to include information on vegetarian/vegan diets in nutrition instruction.”
Letters from California residents are now needed for the other California State Legislators and Assembly Members. The resolution does not yet have a number, so please refer to it as “The vegetarian school lunch option authored by Assemblyman Joe Nation.”
Click here (http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html) to type in your zip code and find your Senator and Assembly Member’s name (each CA resident has one of each).
You can copy and paste this letter, changing it a bit to make it your own. All letters can be sent to the address listed in the letter below:

Dear Senator XX:
[or Dear Assemblyman (or Assemblywoman) XX:]
More and more of California’s children come from vegetarian families. It is important that these children have the option of eating healthy meals at school. Assemblyman Joe Nation recently authored a resolution to provide a vegetarian entrée as part of the free and reduced price school lunch program.
Please contact Mr. Nation to express support for this resolution.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
