Okay, so a few months ago, I tried some of this for the first time at an Ice Cream shop. It was alright, but nothing to write home about.
Last night, I'm at Trader Joe's and they have some on sale, some Cherry/Chocolate concoction. I decide to plop down my $4 and try again.
Sweet Moses, I think I may never eat anything else again. :lick:

I don't like the cherry bits in it. I wish they were smoothed out and blended in with the finished product. I do like the chocolate chunks, though. Other than that, it is quite tasty. I still would choose Soy Delicious or Whole Soy's ice cream over theirs. Unfortunately, I have never seen the nog flavor that I heard Double Rainbow makes.

I've never tried the Soy Delicious because the Double Rainbow choc. ice cream makes it very hard for me to go vegan. But I googled their website and found this:
Double Rainbow Soy Cream, our non-dairy, all natural, frozen dessert was developed in direct response to customer requests. Made from organic soy, Double Rainbow Soy Cream offers a tasty alternative to ice cream. As research continues, more benefits of soy products are being discovered and/or substantiated. Soy's nutritional value includes that it is high in protein and calcium, low in saturated fat and free of cholesterol. It brings with it many healthy rewards. Some research indicates a decreased risk of cancer, osteoporosis and heart disease, in addition to easing some symptoms of menopause. The largest group from whom we heard is the one out of five Americans who are lactose intolerant. The best praise. . . "I can't believe it's not ice cream!"
Blueberry - the scrumptious taste of fresh blueberries and cream (parve) (also available in pints)
Butter Pecan - generous pieces of pecans mixed in buttery cream flavor (parve) (also available in pints)
Chocolate Chocolate Chip - chocolate lovers dream of dark chocolate and non-dairy chocolate chips (available in pints only)
Coffee Almond Fudge - gooey ribbons of non-dairy fudge, blended into a rich coffee cream flavor and adorned with crunchy almonds (parve) (also available in pints)
Cookie Vanilla - just like dunking a chocolate cookie in a rich, cold glass of milk (available in pints only)
Mint Chocolate Chip - vanilla mint soy cream filled with intense non-dairy chocolate chips (also available in pints)
Vanilla Bean - creamy vanilla base sprinkled with morsels of flavorful vanilla beans (parve) (also available in pints)
Very Cherry Chocolate Chip - juicy dark cherries, and non-dairy chocolate chunks mixed into luscious cherry cream flavor (also available in pints)
I'm drooling! Now all I have to do is find some of these flavors and if they're as good as claimed, I may have one less excuse for staying lacto-ovo. Thanks, you guys! (Double Rainbow people and VB'rs, that is!)

This stuff spoils you. I can't even eat Soy Delicious anymore. It tastes like crap compared to Soy Cream. Please never go away, Soy Cream!!!

I had the double rainbow soy ice cream in CA over christmas break...it was so amazingly good...*day dreams*
I like Whole soy, but the double rainbow just blows it away. Unfortnatly, I can't find the double rainbow out here, so I stick w/ the whole soy, which is pretty good.

Nope. IMO, Soy Delicious kills Double Rainbow. I especially enjoy the fruit sweetened varieties of Soy Delicious. As far as Double Rainbow, I love fruit, but I do not like fruit chunks in my ice cream.

BTW, I haven't had the pleasure of finding the non-fruit varieties of Double Rainbow Soy Cream. The chocolate, chocolate chip looks great as well as the coffee almond fudge.

HG: I'm in canada, in alberta. I haven't seen it around any stores I've been too lately. But damn, I really really want to!! I emailed the Double Rainbow and asked if they had anybody selling their product here. Hopefully I get a response soon.

Tofurky...thanks :) I will check Save on Foods (formerly "overwaitea") and see if they carry it, the one in my area has a rather large vegan section. I will also ahve to check the local health shop.

We love it too, it seems exactly like ice cream to me instead of a cool treat or something else like the others. I wish they had more exciting flavors, but the French Vanilla & Mint Choc Chip are great, my other half lifes the Duce No Luce or whatever it's called exactly!

Well, I tried the Double Rainbow soy cream chocolate chocolate chip flavor last night. It has this metallic taste and doesn't have that rich, creamy real chocolately taste that DR's real chocolate ice cream has. I'm trying, I really am, but I'm afraid I'd be a washout as a vegan. I WANT to be a vegan. I just like Double Rainbow's real ice cream better. I'm sorry.

Try the Soy Delicious line, Amy. I'm suprised you like cow ice cream better. I remember it having a filmy, sour, aftertaste unlike yummy soy ice cream.

I don't get that at all, are you sure it wasn't poorly handled. A natural foods store in my town (which I won't name since an employee is posting in this thread) is pretty bad about letting all the soy ice cream melt and refreeze, as evidenced by ice crystals on the top of the package. This can really negatively affect the flavor and texture of ice cream, soy or not.
I doubt the DR soy ice cream is as good as the DR dairy stuff, since DR is one of the best brands period. I think it compares favorably with consumer brands like Haagen Daaaaaaaz.

I'm only able to get the Mango Sorbet with Vanilla soy cream and the Cherry Chip kind here. They're both really good. I hope either Trader Joe's starts to carry more flavors or that some of the other HFS around here start carrying them.

Maybe it's just because I haven't had cow cream in so long, but I don't notice anything funny about soy cream from Double Rainbow at all. It's heaven in a bucket!
