What do y'all think of the rash of hip hop cross-overs / duets with "rockers"?
Personally I LOVE it. I love Linkin Park and Jay-Z...so this collaboration was brilliant. I love Tim McGraw  and Nelly....
Even the ones where they are just sampling ie Twista sampling Crazy Train.
It all just makes me warm and fuzzy and wanna :vebo: :bobo: :nana:

I think it is great although I haven't heard the collaborations that you mentioned. I have some songs that my favorite group, the Wu-Tang Clan, did with rockers. One crazy track features Ozzy Osbourne and ODB (RIP).

I was channel surfing sometime over the past week or so and caught part of the Linkin Park ~ J-Z thing on one of the music channels. I liked it.
I'm not crazy about the Tim McGraw ~ Nelly piece, but that's just because I prefer Tim McGraw as Tim McGraw (I'm not even crazy about duets with Faith he's done).
I do like to see the different genres mix to see what they'll come up with.

Seems you can watch the Jay-Z Linkin Park video here http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/linkin_park/artist.jhtml
But my work computer keeps crashing :p

I, personally, can't stand Linkin Park, and I'm lukewarm for Jay-Z at best, so naturally their collaboration failed to get my cold heart started. At the store I haven't seen anyone over age 12 buy that CD.
For a "classic" rap-rock crossover album, check out the Judgement Night soundtrack released in 1993, if I recall correct: Sonic Youth w/ Cypress Hill. Helmet w/ House of Pain. Del w/ Dinosaur Jr. Ice T. w/ Biohazard. And so on...

I am not a Jay-Z fan or a Nelly fan, though. I have heard some Lincoln Park tracks that I like. Tim McGraw is a country singer, right? *doesn't like country*

I can't wait for some fresh sounding hip hop to come out. It all sounds recycled and flat to me anymore. I like it still, but it doesn't really make me want to buy anyones CD or anything like it used to.
This collaberation stuff is just more recycling. It's ok but not my first choice to listen to.
I keep secretly hoping that TuPac didn't actually die. He was fresh, even when he sampled songs it still sounded great.

Ooooh I love the first two...Never heard the third one...I used to be a huge Mobb Deep fan though!

Any thoughts on the Eminem-produced recent Tupac release?
There are a few decent rappers out there, though not really in the mainstream for the most-part. I won't hijack this thread about it, though.

So far what I've heard, I really like. I loved Tupac, and I gotta give props to Em. He rocks...I love his funny attitude and think he'a an overall great guy / rapper / actor. But what do I know :p :juggle:

I haven't checked out the whole thing yet. I downloaded one of the never released before TuPac sung tunes from Amazon and loved it. Do you have it Trent? What do you think? Worth the money?

If it was a better group - say Anthrax and Public Enemy (there I go aging myself again) - I'd be interested. I cannot stand Linkin Park, Nelly, or Tim McGraw. That Nelly/McGraw thing makes me want to poke my eye out.

All Eyez On Me was the last reease before his death.
You are looking for Resurrection, and shoot, a new one just came out that I bought, but I don't know the name. Loyal to the Game maybe...
I think there is another before Resurrection...Machiavelli?

yeah 'loyal...' is the Em-produced album. It's okay. A few of the tracks, for better or for worse, sound like straight-up g-unit tracks with Tupac stuck in the middle. I'd say that if you're "feelin" the g-unit stuff (excluding 50 Cent's "Get Rich..." which is so Dr. Dre that it sounds enough UNlike G-unit) then the new "Tupac" is worthwile.
I'm listening to the new De La Soul right now (The Grind Date) which might be good. Just in case you haven't already, Kanye "Show me the Grammy" West is worth a listen, as is Talib Kweli's "Beautiful Struggle".

The De La Soul CD reviews have been all raves. Let me know what you think. I always liked them.

i typically think trying to mix the two genres is BAD EVIL YUCK but the times i've heard it all blended well, it blew my mind. no specific examples come to mind though, because insomnia does not lend to a halfway-decent memory :p

*On a side note since we are speaking of quality hip hop* Listen to the Blade 3 soundtrack. The first 5 tracks were produced by RZA. Amazing, crisp, innovative beats. His work on Kill Bill opened the door for him in hollywood. He is doing 4 more films in 2005. He actually worked with an orchestra on the score and soundtrack fro Blade 3. RZA is the father to people like Kanye West's style.

The Suicidal Tendencies/Ice Cube song was good. I hate linkin park a lot, but I haven't minded the collaboration with Jay Z (all in part to Jay Z)
I'm interested in hearing most things, as long as it doesn't sound like rap/metal such as limp bizkit, crazy town, and other horrible, horrible bands.

RZA & GZA are my boyfriends.
Um the only one that I can think that worked at all was Aerosmith and RUN DMC- "Walk this Way".
