I'm bumping this thread for the newbies! :D

49. Go to health food stores, natural food stores, veg*an restaurants, and anywhere else that veg*ans are likely to be found and tell them about http://www.veggieboards.com The more, the merrier!

50 - Don't base your diet on meat substitutes. Use them sparingly & become well acquainted with the fruits, vegetables, and grains you never knew existed and the many recipes you can make with them.

60. When you find yourself eating the same thing remember there's tons of free resources available for putting together new and nutritious meals like the internet (VB!) and the library (just took out 2 cook books today!)

What about shellfish? How do you convince someone about oysters, clams, mussels, etc???

its so easy being vegetarian, why do people make it seem so hard? I agree whole heartedly. Don't put the fork to your mouth. Why do people get cravings? there are meat substitutes out there that taste like the real thing (boca burgers/dogs/etc)
oh well, I'll never understand people and their addiction to being obese and unhealthy :spew:

Where did you come from and how come you don't have anything nice to say? Judgemental and condesending much?

Yeah, all omni's are obese and unhealthy and there are no veg*ns that are obese and unhealthy.

You might want to tear yourself away from the PETA propagranda and go outside once in a while.

"Is a clam a vegetable?" Everything is categorized thusly: it is either an Animal, a Vegetable, or a Mineral.

Remember that ATTITUDE is an important part of the veg*an lifestyle. Maintain a positive one at all times. NEVER criticize anybody else for eating something you would never touch. ALWAYS be civil and pleasant when questioned about your diet. SMILE and stay calm even when hostile comments are made about your meals. MAINTAIN your sense of humor. When you are comfortable about what you eat, there is no reason to feel guilty or ashamed of it and any negative comments should not affect you. (In short, be a positive role model for the veg*an lifestyle.)

GREAT post!

61 (I think). When asked why you are veg, give an answer that will satisfy both people

62. If you leave up the PETA websight accidently, it's okay. Maybe your friends little sister will start caring about animals. (Happend over here!)

63. Laugh at abnoxiose sibblings jokes. Don't be easily offended by them (and if they are just visiting you, it's OK, they will leave soon)

that was in reference to a troll that was just here, not in reference to anyone's post (in case anyone was wondering).

62. Hit the mute button or turn off the danged television every time a commercial comes on that tries to sell you greasy, disgusting, fat-laden, disease-ridden, sodium-ridden inedible garbage they have the nerve to call "fast food"... :stinkeye: Doing so will help remove from your sight the temptation of bad dietary habits and allow you to continue on your healthy, happy, vegetarian path...

(this thread cannot be bumped often enough) :D

63. Remember, if you backslide, you haven't really "failed". A veg*an diet is not a test you must pass. If you really want to be a vegetarian, you will try again.

/again, bumping this thread. I really feel that new veg*ans should see this thread.

64. Always have a snack in your purse or car or backpack so you are not tempted because of hunger...nuts, granola, peanut butter sandwich...

I cut out fast food long before going vegetarian for many of these reasons.

Tips on becoming vegetarian

#1 If it's meat, don't buy it.
#2 If it's meat, don't stab it with your fork and lift it to your mouth.
#3 If it's meat, neither chew it nor swallow it.

Ah, words of wisdom! :)

What worked for me was to substitute fake chicken, faux ground meat for the real thing. The whole beef thing wasnt an issue because I havent eaten that in 17 years or so but giving up my poultry was a little difficult.

(this thread cannot be bumped often enough) :DOr.... make a satire out of those dead food commercials.

*sung to the tune of the commercial jingle "Eat beef, eat beef"*

Eat death, eat death when you eat a steer
mad cow, heart attacks, yep it's all right here
block your butt butt butt with rotting colon food
have falafel instead, it's mm-mm-mm.... :lick:

I know it's been said already, but these can't be stressed often enough:

-- Read, read, read. Cookbooks as well as literature on health/nutrition, animal rights, and environmental issues.

-- Vary your diet. See above re reading cookbooks, and don't be afraid to try new ingredients/cuisines.

-- And above all, keep a positive attitude!

65. If you are a student, always keep pro-veg literature handy wherever you are on campus, so you can hand it out to all your so-called friends who tease you or give you grief about your diet... You'd be surprised how much just a little education works better than annoyed, snarky responses... :D
