A bunch of the products I'm currently using either have animal products in them (Dove soap) or are tested on animals. Can anyone help with replacement recommendations that can be found easily and/or affordably?
Wisk/Gain clothes detergent
Downy fabric softener
Pine-Sol/Mr. Clean/Clorox
Crest toothpaste
Johnson&Johnson baby shampoo
Dove bar soap (thinking about The Body Shop's Shea butter bar)
Dove deodorant
Curel lotion (not sure if Andrew Jergens comp. is cruelty free)
I'd like to possibly be able to find the replacements at Wal Mart for the time being LOL. :D
Also what are the best online resources for beginner vegetarians/vegans?
Thanks to all for any help....Clay

I shop at Wal-Mart every once in a while so I can give you some suggestions of products I know are available there.
Laundry detergent: Sun. All of their detergents are vegan and cruelty free.
Fabric softner: Cuddle Soft fabric sheets (the liquid kind isn't vegan, sorry)
Toothpaste: Tom's Of Maine. Wal-Mart sells it cheaper than most places.
Shampoo: V05 or Herbal Essence
For other products, like soap and deodorant, check out the generic brands and look on the back, often they will state "not tested on animals" and are often free of animal ingredients. The Dollar Tree has a lot of vegan items, so I pick up stuff there quite a bit.

Welcome Astral! I like Tom's Of Maine's toothpaste and deodorant. The brand seems to be carried pretty widely now, so you might have some luck finding it.
You also might try using the search feature here at VB to access some old threads.

i use 7th generation for my laundry (they make many cleaning products)
i use kmf or j/a/s/o/n toothpaste because they are cheaper i believe (could be wrong here though)
i use natures gate organics or conditioner, shampoo, deod, soap etc.
lotion i use kmf (peaches an cream) i am in love with- course assuming your a guy that might not be your choice scent to wear. my favorite website ever is veganessentials.com- and its shipped sooo quick to - great variety also

I'm glad you are thinking of your cleaning products and personal care products, a lot of times people forget about those. I buy all my cleaners and personal care products and vitamins from an awesome company who uses no harsh chemicals or preservatives, they do not test on animals either. I was really unaware of the hamful chemicals used in everyday products and how they could harm myself, my family and the environment. I did not want my daughter (2-yrs) to have asthma or allergies or ADD/ADHD or be accidentally poisoned by her own baby shampoo or toothpaste or anything else when it could be easily prevented. I've been shopping with them for 2 years, the prices are comparable to name brands found at wal-mart but they work better and of course have no bad stuff and no animal testing or animal products. Email me to find out how you can be a customer. beonkadees@yahoo.com

I don't buy cleaning products. I clean with baking soda, lemon, vinegar, and water. Not all together of course, but different cleaning stuffs for different jobs.

Well, if you're opposed to animal testing not supporting companies that do the majority of it is a start. You don't have to replace all of your current products with high-priced alternatives. Simply buying the generic brand would be a good place to start.
