Thanks for the info! Does anyone know anything about possible organized freegans in the Washington DC area?

Yeah, I don't know if I'd ever be able to do all this, but I always find reading about it interesting. Thanks.

This is all very intriguing to me, as I am very poor & hate the way capitalism works. I am not sure about putting this into effect though, as I'm in a very public job (-radio announcer) & I don't think this would help my reputation in the industry. Also, I doubt I could scavenge for specialized diets for my exotic rescue animals: hedgie, chinchilla & guinea pigs.
I am kind of a scavenger, discreetly, for my own food already. I can't wait until I can go to Food Not Bombs after Xmas.
The only thing about freeganism that kind of bothers me is, what are the consequences for vendors of natural, ethically-produced, vegan, etc. goods? I would hate to see these companies die out because freeganism caught on "too well" (unlikely, I know).
All my clothes & about 90% of my books are already secondhand. I only pay money for food (sometimes), pet foods & rent.
Rent is the WORST, but I'm getting rid of my apt. & living in the basement of a radio station so I think I'm just going to rent a storage locker & keep my pets @ bf's.

There is sooo much waste, that these vendors will not be affected. If anything due to the increased buy and throw mentality, their profits will increase. Hope your situation improves.
