Anybody have a favourite sweater label? I have been looking for really cute fashionista style winter sweaters. I have only been able to find a few at Anthropolgie. I am not vegan yet, but I am considering giving all of my animal hair sweaters, hats, and scarves to my sister for Christmas. I love sweaters so any help would be swell. Thanks.

I make my own hats and scarves, and sometimes jumpers too. Mostly I get them from the op shop (thrift store).

You found some at Anthropologie?
Wow. I thought they put angora, wool, and/or cashmere in everything. I've yet to see one without any of the above.
Most sweaters made without animal hair are made of acrylic, which is kind of funky feeling and not very warm. There's some great looking, ultra soft and relatively warm sweaters made of 100% nylon (trust me, they are SO soft!!) at www.victoriassecret.com). They have another collection of cute sweaters right now that are made entirely of acrylic, and are actually pretty thick, but still a little funky feeling, and need to be hand washed. But acrylic retains water like no other fabric, so it was a total PAIN IN THE ASS to do this!! I don't know if it's the item you'd go the dry cleaning route with (and I get A LOT of stuff dry cleaned, so just thinking form experience). You've been warned. But they're cute nonetheless.
I remember seeing a website that sold handmade, custom-made for you sweaters made from silk that had been hand-gathered from coccoons that were already done and over with, the silk worm already had emerged and they were just waiting there. They also had handmade, custom-made for you sweaters made from wool hand-clipped gently by actual small-farm farmers somewhere off in a pretty little European town. It was a site specifically trying to be animal-friendly. I wouldn't have a problem wearing these things because no animals were hurt, at all, and really, animal-made fabrics (very sadly) tend to be superior to anything synthetic. BUT I forgot the URL (stupid me forgot to bookmark it!!) and I've been trying in vain to find it ever since. If anyone reads this and knows what I'm talking about, PLEASE share!!
I make my own hats and scarves, and sometimes jumpers too. Mostly I get them from the op shop (thrift store).
I get a lot of shoes from the thrift shop, and also some wool things like tweed skirts, pants, coats, and sweaters, and other animal-hair things that nobody wanted any more and therefore ended up there. My feet will die in a cheap shoe, which is sadly what most vegan shoes are (but yay for Stella McCartney shoes!!). Therefore I usually end up buying leather shoes at thrift stores, because the support is so much better. If I'm wearing a stiletto-heeled shoe all day, it just can't be $20 value and made of plastic. I'll be crippled by 40...
I know a lot of vegetarians have issues with wearing leather shoes even if they are vintage, but I really don't. It might be a little weird to be wearing a dead animal on my feet if I begin to think about it, but I just try not to, for my own health. I didn't support the slaughter industry, and that's the point.

I found that Alloy has some cute (although trendy) synthetic sweaters. I also did an Amazon search for sythetic sweters and came up with a number of cute ones, although some of them did not list the materials, and a few of them were not 100% synthetic so you have to read carefully if you do that.

I have found some cotton sweaters at both Old Navy and Gap. They tend to be the classic styles like ribbed turtlenecks. Not exactly trendy, but they sure are comfy! My wool sweaters are so itchifying I wonder why anyone, including me, had the desire to buy them.

You can find hemp sweaters online. They're vegan and hemp is also the most environmentally-friendly fabric. I try to avoid synthetics unless it's a choice between synthetics and animal products (in which case synthetics win every time).

llbean has cotten sweaters.
i tend to buy sweaters at the thrift store tho as i prefer wool sweaters because they are much warmer but i don't want to support the wool industry. plus, i'm poor and they're cheap. :o

Cosmo, I've purchased a number of BCBG sweaters recently which were vegan. I'm wearing one now as a matter of fact. (Yes, I know...I should be in bed...it's almost 4 am!)

Sally, you are so awesome. I never even dared to dream BCBG! I will have to check that out. This animal free sweater thing may be easier than I thought.
