So Quorn is made from some kind of fungus that is grown in a vat, right? They refer to it as mycoprotein.

I was looking at faux turkey roast options at the co-op and the Quorn roast has this under the ingredients list: "We do not use ingredients that were produced using modern biotechnology."

I'm qurious how they define biotechnology. Because growing mycoprotein in a vat sounds like biotechnology to me...

I'm assuming they mean genetically modified foods.

It's really an interesting read about how they make it.

If they mean genetically modified or bio-engineered, why not say so?

Biotechnology sounds like it would cover anything from hydroponics to Star Trek replicators. Including, growing fungus in a vat.

I liked the chicken patties. I wish it was vegan.

If quorn made a vegan version of those chicken patties and the turkey roast I'd be at whole foods faster than Michael Jackson at a boy scouts meeting. I loved the stuff.

I've read that before. I think it's good to be aware of, but I don't think Quorn should be banned any more than peanuts should be banned. Some people are sensitive, but other people should be able to eat it if they want to. Which seems to be the attitude of the FDA (and its equivalents in other countries) so I have no worries.

I just wish it wasn't all egg-y and whey-y.

I haven't tried too many quorn products, but I was very disappointed with the chicken nuggets.

Exactly! I mean milk (dairy), seafood, nuts, gluten, aspartame, MSG ... all of these things can cause severe reactions in people who are sensitive to them.

I don't think you can ban everyone from eating something becasue some people will have a reaction.

If that were the case then say bye-bye to peanuts and peanut butter and everything with wheat in it.

I eat quorn stuff and am fine, of course im not too of an allergenic for foods i guess. My g/f is kinda sensitive with a lot of things though and she can eat all their stuff fine.

Think of it this way, theres millions of people each year that eat dirty meat and get food bourne illnesses from that too :junk:

I think their stuff is great, so if its some kinda fungus, what is it, does it grow in nature or is it only manmade?
