14 mile run today...it was another killer but I'm glad I pushed myself through it. I was only going to do 8 but it was a nice day so I figured why not take advantage of it. Soon I'll be doing these runs on the tread mill and I hate doing the real long ones on the mill.

Yay For Week 100!
I haven't posted in a while, cause I pretty much do the same two things alternated, but I thought since we're at a nice round number, I'd post!
Today: 35 minutes level 9 hills on the treadmill, at 3.3-3.7 mph
30 minutes resistance training
Anyone have any suggestions that are good to slim down/muscle up through the hips? My body is hanging on to that fat for dear life.

ok, I did manage to take my daughter to the park today and do a little running around, does that count?
Man I'm so sad....

rabid_child, nice to see you again. Yup, fat likes to hang in there sometimes :-/ If what you're doing now isn't woking then you have to change what you're doing. I would suggest lengthening your treadmill time. The body starts to burn more fat after 40 mins of cardio. Make sure you are eating well, as in good food, not junk. Some exercises to tone up the hips: hmmm, I'm having a hard time explaining them, I will look for pics and post them.
808, Yes, that sure does count! And it is not sad! It's a great start. I know how hard it can be to find the time and the motivation to start working out on a regular basis. I was once a 2+ pack a day smoker, single mom, working full time, totally stressed out, hardly able to walk a few blocks. But hey, if you hang in there it really does pay off. A lot of things have gotten easier for me since then, but it all started when I quit smoking and started working out.
Go Hamsters!

20 mile run.
It is amazing how that went better than my measly 4 and 5 milers during the week. What gives? I am beginning to think I am a social runner becuase my long runs are always much nicer than my short ones and I always run the long ones with other club members.
Nice going Slynny! Glad you were able to have another beautiful long run. :)

Thanks for the tip! My legs are starting to look a little absurd. I'm toned up to my upper thighs, then it looks like a chicken drumstick :o I'm doing the hip abductor/adductor thingies.. I guess all things with time, eh? I eat mostly good food. I do have a sweet tooth, but the majority of my diet is fruits/veggies/whole grains/nuts/soystuff. My biggest problem is when my stomach freaks out for a couple days and I live off of crackers and toast cause thats all my belly can handle. I'll try to up the cardio, see how my workout buddy takes that. lol. She starts to whine after about 20 minutes as it is. I don't know if you or anyone else will know this... but is it better to do easier cardio longer or harder cardio shorter? I burn more calories on the elliptical machine but I get worn out much faster and generally can't do more than 20 minutes. I can stay on the treadmill much longer, and I've been trying to incorporate more jogging (though I find it very awkward and have difficulty maintaining my balance), but it burns calories much slower.

:hi: Hi!
How's everybody doing? I've missed all you hamsters! Hopefully I will have more time to post now. I need to be more accountable for doing some kind of exercise. I was doing mostly biking and working out at the Y. Now I'm wanting to work on my running again. Today I ran 1 mile. I'm starting out really slow and easy. Actually it's been so long since I've run that I'm surprised I finished even one mile without stopping for a break.
Wow! You hamsters are doing fantastic! :bobo:

toda for me -
40 minutes spinning
20 minutes cross trainer
200 bicycle crunches
stretching
35 minutes lower body weights
rabidchild - if you tend to do the same cardio all the time, try to vary it a little . i was doing an hour on the cross trainer, then broke it up with 20 minutes on that, the treadmill, and the bike..and i noticed swell results.

Yay...Sky! So nice to see you! I hope this means you have more time to post. Ahem...I think you owe me a pm. :D
Captain, way to go on the 20! I knew you'd do fine. Hey, once I start doing the long runs I hate the short ones too. I wish I could just do long ones and nothing in between...but we know that just won't do :D
rabid_child, I'm tellin' ya, over 40 mins. better for fat burning. I'll try to get some info to back up my claim.
808, I will. but I'm so tired now, I have to go to bed. I'll pm you this week sometime.

Sky! :hi: We've missed you!
Slynny, isn't it strange? I'm not meant to do short distance. :D
Funk, nice work!
Nice to see you back too rabid_child. As for hip exercises, I can't say. I know that my legs are always tired after running though. :)
808veggie, any exercise is great! Even a short walk a day is good for you so don't feel bad about what you do.

Today I ran 2 miles and walked 1 mile in the rain. It was a light rain and I got to see some deer so it wasn't bad at all.

no exercise fairy and my back is killing me, I think I may be getting an UTI. ugh I didn't eat very much today:
B: shredded wheat bran and soymilk
L: a vegan double choc chip cookie and 1 tofurky jerky(it was too salty to eat anymore)
and gum.
I feel blah.

Yeah, today was supposed to be a longer run but long story short, I had to walk my friend home. So today I got in a 2 mile walk and there was only enough daylight for a really fast 2-mile run. And some lunges, jump roping, ab stuff, and free weights on the arms.
Tomorrow should be a longer run...seeing all you guys doing so much is makin me itch for one :hamster:
Go hamsters!!!

Can I become a hamster even though it's week 100 and I am brand new?
I need some serious help/motivation to get moving. Biking is my thing. I've been mountain biking for a few years and just started road cycling as well. But now that it's colder and there are no after-work daylight hours, I have to move to riding the bike on the trainer. I am very easily bored--biking outdoors is about the only thing I have really loved to do (martial arts is another) exercise-wise. So having to spin around and go nowhere is no fun for me! I watch DVDs while I do it, but that only helps a bit. But I need to make myself do it to keep myself in some kind of shape.
Anyway, today I did nothing other than a brief walk to my bank at lunchtime.

Day off today, I was going to go to my exercise class but I forgot to set the alarm. Da!
Way to go catswym! That's great.
Sky, that's great!!
808, what's a UTI? No, not a very good lunch. Why not make yourself a sandwich and take a piece of fruit or a bottle of fruit juice. You need to decide on some kind of cardio too. Cardio and eating better will give you more energy.
Funk, hehehe, yup gotta keep up on the butt stuff. Great Hamstering!
annabannana, great that you got the four miles in and 2 fast. I hope tomorrows run goes well for you!
ND, I can't get over the miles you're putting in. :vebo:
formicalinoleum, Of coarse you can be a Hamster! Welcome to the group! :hamster:
I have the same problem with regards to biking. We've moved a bike indoors onto the trainer and I hate the trainer 10 times more than the treadmill. But we recently got a new software program that has made it more tolerable to ride the trainer. It's called netathlon, you can take a look at it here www.fitcentric.com
Go Hamsters!!!

UTI- Urinary Tract Infection, but I don't have any back pain today, so I guess that wasn't it!
I found this great juice at Publix from a company called Bolthouse Farms, it's called green goodness and it has everything from broccoli to spinach to kiwi to banana puree etc.....mmmmmmmmm
