OK, I've been on this topic many times.....I'm just LAZY! OK, here's the deal, I cannot work out where I live (with my parents) because there is absolutely no room in the house anywhere-I'm not exagerating-not even in my bedroom because my daughters' crib is in there as well. I have no money for a gym right now, and now when I get home after work it's already dark! What can I do? :help:
I pretty much eat well, but I would like to lose 15-20 pounds. BTW, I'm in sales so I'm only in the office about 3 hours a day and the rest of the day is spent driving around.

Maybe you could go running in the morning?

   ok sorry-I don't run-asthma amongst other things. I would walk in the morning, but I have to leave the house by 7:15 and before then it's dark. :(

Hmm..any way you could take walks during your lunch break?

well like I said since I"m in sales, I drive around for like 4-6 hours a day! Usually grabbing lunch on the run. Plus I don't want to be sweaty in a meeting.
Would it be effective if I did crunches on my bed?

You'd be better off during crunches on the floor. There has to be a little empty floor space in your house.
You also need to do more than crunches to lose weight. I reccomend a run-walk program.

OK, maybe I should join a stop smoking thread first............. :stinkeye:

if you stop smoking, you'll probably gain weight. You'll be healthier overall, but quitting smoking in order to lose weight is counterproductive.

I need to quit smoking for general health esp because I only smoke cloves

I'm not saying that quitting smoking isn't a good idea. just that you might want to separate the two things out... like concentrate on quitting smoking until you're out of the "I'm quitting" stage and into more of an "I've quit" stage... and THEN go for weight loss.
As for excercise, you might try getting a buddy to walk with for security after dark and companionship and to keep you walking.

When did you start smoking? Did you always smoke? Do you smoke vegan cigarettes/is there such a thing?

btw, i walk in the dark all the time. sometimes, if i can't sleep, i'll go for a walk. one nite, i walked 5 miles (just in a one mile loop five times) after midnite. i make sure to wear all of my reflectors and i just do my thing. i slept like a log after that. :)

The only bad thing about walking at night, even with reflective clothing, is rapists and kidnappers. The reflective clothing probably helps if it's not too lifeless around where you're walking, but it's best to walk with someone, like someone here said :)

i've been walking in the nite for years, and i've never run into a kidnapper or rapist. it is wise to be smart about these things--know your neighborhood, carry your cell phone, and know some basic self defense.
but in my neighborhood, i don't have to worry about it, so i don't. i wouldn't walk at nite in fairmont park (in philly) as women get raped in the daylight there (usually women jogging alone), but in my neighborhood (many many many miles from FP) it's not an issue.

Yeah, definitely a big factor is how dangerous your neighborhood is. I found something that's cool on a website called city-data.com where you can look up ... well city data. lol. If you scroll down a bit it lists the numbers of rapes, murders, etc. that occured in your city. But it is like 3 years old. I like to compare it to other cities though.
Anyway I forgot, I think a really good idea for protection if you're walking alone is pepper spray as well.

yeah I need to do something, my mom's neighborhood isn't that good. arrrgggghhhh maybe I'll just wait til I have some money and join the yoga den at the end of the street.

to be honest, I don't know if they are vegan, but I've been smoking about 10 months now.

Hmm... If instead of "grabbing" a lunch during your day (sounds like you're buying it), you could make yourself something simple -- a sandwich, some fruit, whatever -- and then use the money you save to join a gym that opens by 6am and has a shower so you can get all pretty before you leave the gym at 7:15am.
:)
Also, I don't walk much at night after the sun sets, but in the morning before the sun rises things are pretty quiet. I take my cell phone, but even in the bad parts of my city, it's safe to walk in the morning. That may not be true of your neighborhood, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Crunches and push ups don't require much space (don't do them on your bed, like someone said), and neither do a lot of free weight exercises. You'd only need enough room to lie down on. Some more complex things may require room, but if you're limited on space that doesn't mean you can't do anything.
Having shared a room with a crib, I know what you mean about space limitations... but here's what I found out. Cribs can be pushed into hallways for short periods of time. And if no one is occupying them at the moment, they can even be put on top of twin-sized (or bigger) beds while you do some exercises. Weights can be lifted in kitchens (and usually push-ups and sit-ups can be done in there, too). Cramped? Yes. Impossible? No. You have options, you just have to be creative.

Oh... and you can get one of those spiffy pull-up bars that go inside your doorway. Takes no space at all. :)

you may be able to exchange work for yoga at the yoga place. take the time to pick a class on the schedule and commit yourself to it. then, go try the class. if you like it, ask the instructor if there's a way for you to do work study.
i haven't paid for a yoga class in about 6 years because i work study for everything.

can you explain work study? I'm not sure I would have services to offer other than clening up maybe?

cleaning up is one of the services. At the yoga studio where i worked last, people could do laundry (wash the rental mats and towels once a week), wash the floors/cubbies/etc, maintain the altar space (dust ganeshe, bring flowers each week, change water, etc), or welcome people as they come in and take care of the money.
the first three would give one class per week; the last one would bring two classes per week. if they don't offer work study (because they don't know how), then suggest it: hey! i can clean the floors (once a week with vinegar/water for a thorough cleaning) for one class a week!
it's fairly simple work.

808, In order to loose weight the best way is to change your diet (I liked Mskedi's suggestion) and find a way to work in some cardio. How about a jump rope, you could do that outside without having to go anywhere. Do you have a tv? you could do some pilates tapes, you don't need a lot of room to do pilates, or how about a step workout. If you don't have a tv get a book, there are lots of good exercise books. STOP SMOKING! please, it's so bad for you, and hey I do understand, I am an ex-smoker. Why don't you come on back to the Hamsters...you know we'll be happy to encourage you:whip: :D ^^^^^^^^^^^^>>you too Mskedi :D
