Calculate the cost of buying the grapes and sugar. Then calculate the rate of wine consumption. See if this is worth the time. Also looks like a Demi-John is essential and can't be avoided. Is it really that frugal finally ?

For Frugal trials, it helps to use small quantities. Also, yes if the trial was carefully performed and the outcome not desirable then it is frugal to discard the end product.
