for the idea that medical testing on animals is unnecessary and in many cases flawed research.

I have an idiot on another message board trying to tell me that it is "absolutely necessary" to animal test. I'd like to have some scientific articles chock full of facts to debunk his assertions.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

P.S. - It would be best if these articles and informative sites weren't related to PeTA as I'm pretty sure that this person will discount anything related to PeTA as "extremist" and unreliable.

I can't resist, I'll only say.Why do you think they use animals instead of human volunteers for testing? PAIN!! the things they do humans couldn't & wouldn't take.

Just an idea, but why not contact one of the cruelty-free companies and ask them to provide you with information, proof, etc. afterall someone had to convince them to use alternatives to animal testing..(except for co.'s that started cruelty free) then send it to the ignorant poster. :)

(A responsible site that is recommendable for folks who are skeptical of more graphic, outspoken groups and websites)

www.curedisease.com
(just a side note, there is a pro-vivisection group with a very similar name to this anti-vivisection group, don't get them confused)

www.aavs.org
(check out their magazine articles for detailed and well-reasoned articles)

I didn't know that product testing on animals still happens. This is really sad.

Actually our discussion is regarding medical testing as opposed to product testing. He agrees that animal testing for things that are not essential to life, like mascara and nail polish, etc is unnecessary. He is speaking specifically of testing human medications on animals.

Thanks for the links!
