32-35 a set before it hurts.
i have a 7 year old injury in my right wrist that isn't very condusive to pushups, and normally it hurts significantly with pushups and some yoga positions. . poo to that. i have pretty good upper body strength though.
That is pretty awesome, but then we have grown accustomed to thus from thee................

Oh..I should answer.50..I stop at 50........and haven't seen "how far I could go", but it's a good round # I gathered from a General Military Skills Test at Ft. Knox........

ok, i did some counting the other day and figured out how many chaturanga dandhasans i can do. I have on many occassions done 108 sun salutations, and i like to do 57 As, which have 57 chaturangas, and 57 Bs which have 171 chat.s. That gives me 228 low push ups. Of course, it's not consecutive because you do the whole sun salutation, which for As is 5 other postures and with B it's 11--assuming we stop the salutation cycle at the downward dog. If not, add another 2 poses to each before beginning the cycle again.

it's fun. if you know sun salutations, you should try that. :)

I do two back-to-back sets of 50 every other morning.

I don't want to find out how many I can do while wearing a suit and tie on the carpet in my office.

Even when I was lifting 50+ pounds with my upper body I could only do 10 'boy' pushups. Girly pushups I could do forever (well, not forever, but maybe around 80?)

BTW, girls should do girl pushups and men do straight leg pushups. We have different centers of gravity and straight leggers are bad on our alignment and back. Don't believe me? Get a man to do slow girly pushups. Most of them start crying after 15 :D

Woman are perfectly capable of full military pushups, even with a different center of gravity and they are just as good for us.

I have been slacking off lately but 6 months ago I was up to 26, I worked up to 15 again and plan to be up to 30 by christmas.

I can do 8 pullups on a chinup bar. I have one set up in the hallway. I will be happy if I am up to 10 by christmas.

funky:

if you have some weights somewhere (like five lb dumb bells), you can use those for push ups. place them on the floor, grab the grips in a neutral grip, and then push up from there.

also, to strengthen the wrists, hold the same five lb weight in your hand, with your palm up. let gravity draw the weight toward the floor, and then just using your wrist, curl the weight up. you may want to use lighter than five lbs to start with, but it should strengthen the wrist and help out from the injury. discomfort is ok, pain is bad.

from yoga, do the following mudras:

prayer hands
reverse prayer hands (backs of hands together, pressing back of wrist together, wrists move upward whle elbows move downward)
yin mudra (both hands in yinposition--thumb and index finger make a circle and fingers extend upward, palm outward)
yang mudra (both hands in yang mudra--thumb and index finger make a circle and fingers extend downward, palms face toward the body)
yin and yang mudra--right hand yin, left hand yang, and then reverse

great mudra series.

I can do 10 straight leg, then I take a break (usually going back into a cat-stretch) then do 10 more.

For girl-pushups, I can do 15 without a break.

For judo pushups, (which are evil, and I can't really describe them. You start back, go down as you push forward, then go up again. You move up and down while going forward), I can do about 3. I used to be able to do 0, so I'm improving.

The most I ever did at one sitting was 100 (which I pulled off twice), and then I promptly stopped doing pushups for the next 5 years. Nowadays I can do about 50.

I don't know about the center of gravity stuff, but physically speaking "girl" pushups are easier than regular pushups for anyone, because when you shorter the distance between your hands and your fulcrum of motion (from your feet to your knees), it reduces the amount of torque you have to generate for any given rotational velocity, and thus is becomes easier to lift your body weight, period. I find it highly unlikely that anyone is physically able to do fewer "girl" pushups than regular pushups, barring some bizarre injury or unusual circumstances.
