Great recipe! I made it using low-fat ovo-lacto mayonaise and sour cream, and only half the quantities of them, and it's really yum.

How is the vegan sour cream? I've been scared to try it since i don't care for the vegan cheese.Sounds good.

Don't let the vegan cheese thing put you off on all the alternates out there. Vegan cheese usually tastes like dropped a$$, only not as flavourful. :spew:
Vegan sour cream, however, rocks the casbah - it tastes remarkably like the cow stuff, only better! :bobo:

A popular variation on this dip is to add chopped water chestnuts or diced peppers, either roasted or lightly sauteed.
I love Tofutti sour cream-- it really does rock the Casbah!

I'm going to make this with finely chopped celery, red and yellow peppers and green onions and a little garlic instead of the dressing mix.

This is sooooo good. Thanx Michael!
I did make a change or two. I added chopped water chessnuts and served it in a hawaiian bread bowl. The sweet hawaiian bread really makes this dip addictive.

I used dried chopped onion, dried garlic, and salt, which was cheaper and sans the msg and other crap in the soup mix. Its pretty much all thats in the soup mix anyway. Recommended! I want to go eat it all now though :(
eta: i know this is an oldie, but its a goodie!

That sounds really good. That frozen spinach is my favorit stuff ever, I put in almost everything. When ever I have pasta I always add a pack of frozen spinach. It is so much more economic than fresh spinach cooked down. I only eat the fresh if it is in salad.
Do you think I could just use more sour cream and no mayo, I hate the taste, but maybe you dont taste it too much with all the other stuff in there?

I used to use all sour cream and no mayo in my dips, 'cause I hated mayo too. It should be fine.
But - have you tried Vegenaise? It's AMAZING and nothing like the mayo (yet it must be - because people who LIKE mayo seem to like Vegenaise too...)

I have had the fake mayo at other peoples homes, it is just that I have hated mayo so long that I never use it, so I never think about the fake kind. It does not taste nearly bad as the real mayo. It is the smell of mayo that just makes me gag. But I will probably try using just sour cream, which I do like.
Thanks --
