I've tried this one before, but my boyfriend and I found that we prefered it without the Nayo. It was a bit thinner, but we thought it tasted closer to traditional ranch. We use it on salads and with french fries all the time :)

Nayonaise has a line of salad dressings out. I've seen thousand island, garden vegetable, ranch and another dill one or something. I tried the garden veg one and it was too thick for my taste. I'm going to try the ranch and thousand island next.
This recipe is actually on Peta's website: http://www.petaworld.com/recipes_grub.asp
Ranch Dip
1 pack ranch dip mix (Hidden Valley Ranch Fat-Free)
16 oz. Tofutti Sour Supreme Better Than Sour Cream or Veganaise
Mix ’em together and start dipping. To make the dressing, thin down with soy milk.
I've never checked the ingredients on Hidden Valley Ranch fat-free but I think Peta only post vegan recipes and not vegetarian?? I wonder if that's true.
I just wrote to Hidden Valley to ask which, if any, of their mixes are vegan. I'll post again when I find out.

WOW!!! This was awesome! I just made it and man, it is good. I am a ranch lover, and this is a great substitute. Thanks! I can't wait to use it over my salad at dinner tonight!

What's the shelf life for this stuff? Do you have a couple of days to consume it all or does it have a bit longer?

I'm not sure about the vegetarian/vegan status of Hidden Valley Ranch, but if I recall, it does contain Monosodium Glutimate (MSG) which I won't touch with a 10 foot pole.
Michael, this recipe sounds great!

I just made the recipe myself with the exception of using extra nayonaise instead of vegenaise because I don't have any vegenaise. It was really, really good. thanks

I made this with the Tofutti Sour "cream" and Vegannaise. It tasted VERY "ranch"-like...
I didn't use Nayonaisse because:
#1. I hate the stuff
#2. It seemed like overkill to use two types of mayo-substitute when most "ranch" recipes use mayo and sour cream...
#3. I didn't have both kinds in the house but really wanted some ranch dressing...
Oh... and it was SUPER-SUPER-YUMMY!!!

I also made this with Tofutti's "sour cream" instead of Nayo.
It was delicious! Not a perfect substitute, but very, very close.

I thought veganaise and nayonaise were the same thing? Just different brands.

They're similar, but not the same. Nayonaise is a bit sweeter, more like "salad dressing" or Miracle Whip. Vegenaise is more like Best Foods/Hellmanns or Kraft mayonnaise.

Gotcha.

I tried Nayo and thought it was gross. :p Vegenaise tastes closer to mayo to me.

I never liked Miracle Whip but I loved Hellman's Mayo which explains why I like Veganaise!

In my opinion this recipe make a better dip, than a dressing(might have to do with the dill)...I really prefer Really Ranch dressing recipe here on VB for salads and such though.
I made this recipe today using 1/2 cup vegenaise and 1/2 cup tofutti cream cheese. Actually I doubled it so I could make these "Garden Bars", I posted in Food Porn. http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?p=2141619#post2141619I definately suggest trying like this, its very nice and creamy.

I don't have apple cider vinegar handy. Could I do regular vinegar or rice vinegar?

hmm this looks good. is it fresh dill you use or can you get some sort of powder form?? I'd rather not buy a huge bunch of dill and only use that tiny amount.

I use dry dill, since fresh would go to waste if you bought it just for this.

I'm not sure. I've only used apple cider vinegar in dressings or homemade sourcream. It may be better just to leave it out, or use a little less if your using another vinegar.
