I have been craving chocolate cake. I may have to make this one day soon. I'm all about easy recipes.

I just pulled this out of the oven. I used a bundt pan, which I don't think was the best idea, but I thought I'd give it a try. I think the outside will be dry, as I had to cook it longer to get the inside done.
I cheated a bit and pulled a little bit off already to taste it, and it is yummy. :pibo:
Will post the final verdict later after it cools and I have a proper slice. :)

Yeah I have found the bundt pan doesn't work so well with this cake. I make it in two layers. (That's better anyways cause you get to have icing -or some other filling- in the middle!)

Oh OK, You answered my question. I've made this several times in a 9x13 in square pan, but was considering trying a bundt.
I really like this recipe. It's very versatile and easy.

Well, the cake is a little bit dry on the outside, but not too bad! It is nice and moist throughout the rest of it, and it is really tasty. I made it as directed, except threw in an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder. I would have put in more, but my boyfriend isn't as into dark chocolatey things as I am.
We both loved it.
I think next time I will make cupcakes. I think this recipe is just begging for a "cream cheese" icing, and I just happen to have some Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese in the fridge!

Glad it turned out well!
The cream cheese frosting sounds incredible :lick:

psst! Better Than Cream Cheese frosting always turns out extra yummy with a dash of orange extract! So does chocolate pudding (those Pudding Mate packets with a box of Mori-Nu)

That does sound good. I've used a vegan buttercream recipe that I found on the Vegweb site with some almond extract thrown in . I've also spread a jar of Smucker's marshmallow topping over the entire cake. It tastes similar to the boxed fluffy white frosting mix .

If I make this as cupcakes how many will it make?

Around 12-14 if you make half the recipe. Depends on the size of your muffin tin and your liners. I've made this as cupcakes at least twice, and it comes out great.

hahahaha! I obviously did something VERY wrong coz I ended up with 40 cup cakes AND a 9-incher! What the hell did I do? It's nice though, whatever it is that I've made!

Did you use fairy cakes liner or muffin ones? Also, did you half the recipe?
Although I don't expect that you're actually complaining about a surplus of cupcakes! :p

No, I didn't half it so I was expecting about 24, and you're right, I'm not complaining, although I will have to get some people round to help me eat them!

Okay, I want this again. I had given the lady I work with half of that last cake so I wouldn't end up eating it all, but now I really miss it. :)
I think I'll stop by the store and pick up more flour so I can do cupcakes tonight!!!

Wouldn't it be easier just to use self raising flour rather than mucking about with vinegar and shiz?

Self-rising flour is just regular flower with baking soda... Anyway, I don't see how pouring a spoonful of vinegar is complicated in any way. This is the easiest, most delicious cake I've ever made.

I've never baked anything before- cookies, brownies, cake. Nothing. (Kind of sad considering I'm 21 years old :p)
But I'm baking this cake right now!
My sister loooves chocolate cake so I'm excited to see how she likes it.
I did cut the recipe in half though.

Not that I think this recipe needs another review, but.... This was great! My mother made it for my birthday yesterday, and though she was quite skeptical about how a vegan cake would turn out, she loved it!
I think this would be a very versatile recipe. You could add orange rind, raspberries...

Glad you enjoyed it!
It is very versatile. You can leave out the cocoa (add a bit more flour to make up for it) and add different extracts for different flavors. I've done vanilla and lemon but you could make it any flavor you could find an extract for.

Cool! What a great birthday cake!
(I had "ice cream" pie - chocolate Soy Delicious in a store bought graham cracker crust - and that's as much baking as hubbie will do. But it was good, too!)
