Vegan "Tunafish" Sandwich by Boutell.Com
Category: Sandwiches/Burgers

This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian/vegan diet.

Ingredients:
-----------------------------------------------------
4 oz extra firm tofu
4 tablespoons Nasoya "Nayonnaise" or similar product (vegetarians may wish to substitute real mayo)
1/2 pound seitan
1 tablespoon tahini
6 slices of bread
Pinch of salt

Instructions:
-----------------------------------------------------
Blend the tofu, Nayonnaise, and tahini in a food processor. Add the seitan. For best texture, run the food processor just long enough to chop it into little pieces.

Skip the salt if you wish, but be aware that tunafish is salty stuff. If you are trying to please a tunafish eater, keep the salt.

Additional comments:
-----------------------------------------------------
Makes at least three generous sandwiches. I grilled my bread in a drop of olive oil, with a clove of garlic and a bit of salt and pepper, resulting in a very convincing "restaurant-style" sandwich.

Wow, this sounds really good! I'm assuming it doesn't have the yucky fishy taste. Gotta try this...

You can add some kelp powder to add a bit of the fishy flavor if you want it. though i assume cherry head won't. :p

Kelp powder? That's really interesting! I was thinking about that...but, no, I won't be adding any to my vegan tunafish! :p

When you call for "seitan" do you mean unflavored (like from the asian grocer) or a chicken one or ? I may make this when I have everything.
Thanks for this recipe :)

That is OK, I will make it with some plain seitan I suppose.

Kelp is like, too fishy. A little arame and salt oughta do the trick.

hmm...does anyone who's tried this know if it will work okay without the seitan? I can't seem to get that round here...

eta: obviously with more tofu in it's place.
