ANZAC Bickies by tev olsen
Category: Desserts - Cookies

This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian diet.


Ingredients:

2 cups wholemeal plain flour
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup dessicated coconut
1 1/2 cups raw sugar

250g margarine
2 TBSP golden syrup
2 TBSP boiling water
1/2 to 1 tsp sodium bicarbonate


Instructions:

Preheat oven to 160C (sorry i dont know fahrenheit conversion).

Mix first four ingredients in a bowl.

Melt margarine and golden syrup together. Add boiling water and bicarbonate. Then add to dry ingredients.

Grease baking trays and place biscuit mix on trays, keeping in mind they expand up to 50% diameter.

bake for 10 - 15 mins till nice and golden.

They're pretty yum, but don't taste much like Anzac biscuits.

An Anzac is..
Well Anzac stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corp.. it's to do with the first world war and the battle at Gallopoli, and well basically any war.. we have called Anzac day (which is MASSIVE) (25th of April) where we remember all those who fought for our freedom, there's heapsa parades etc etc.

Bikie is biscuit. You couldn't call it an Anzac cookie.. that'd just be.. so wrong.

Anzac biscuits are a traditional Aussie biscuit. You Yank call them "cookies" I believe. :p
ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corp, and ANZAC day is the 25th of April, a day for commemorating those who have died in the defence of their country.
