Grandma's Apple Pie by NDvegan85

This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian/vegan diet.


Ingredients:

Shell:

3/4 cup flour
1/4 t salt
a little over 1/4 cup shortening
2-3 T cold water

Filling:

at least 5 tart apples (golden delicious are best)
1 cup sugar, divided
1 t cinnamon
3/4 flour
1/2 cup margarine/soy butter


Instructions:

For the shell, mix flour and salt, then cut in shortening w/ a pastry cutter. Add water one T at a time and combine. Roll out on a lightly floured surface and press into a lightly oiled pie pan.

For the filling, slice and peel the apples and put them in the unbaked pie shell. Take 1/2 cup of the sugar and mix in the cinnamon and pour over the apples. In a separate bowl, mix the sugar and the flour together and cut in the soy butter until crumbly. Sprinkle this over the apples and pat down lightly. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350 and bake for 40 minutes more or until apples are tender and crust in brown.

Use Earth Balance soy butter and veg. shortening and pretend that it's healthy!
