This recipe is suitable for a: vegetarian/vegan diet.


Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. margarine (1/4 stick) or water
1/2 cup minced onion
1/2 cup minced green bell pepper
1 lb. firm tofu, patted dry and mashed
6 Tbsp. ketchup
6 Tbsp. chilli sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
Pepper, to taste
4 burger buns, lightly toasted


Instructions:

Heat the margarine or water in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and green pepper and sauté or boil until the vegetables are well cooked, about 5 minutes. Add the mashed tofu and sauté for another 15 minutes, until the tofu is completely cooked. Add the ketchup, chilli sauce, salt and pepper and continue to cook over low heat until the mixture is heated through. Add a little water if mixture is too dry. Spoon onto lightly toasted burger buns.

YUM, I made this recipe tonight for supper with Yves veggie ground instead of mashed tofu.
It was sooooooo yummy.

This sounds so yummy, but I may take Mandy's advice and use the veggie crumble. I just haven't gotten the hang of cooking with tofu yet.

I made these for lunch today using the morningstar veggie crumble. It was yummy!

Same here. I know tofu is an acquired taste, and in most situations I just haven't acquired it yet. lol
I can handle it in a faux ricotta, but other than that, I'm still working on it.

ETA: I am making these again because my boyfriend and I enjoyed them so much the first time.
