I have a really nice cuisinart I got for graduation that I really love. The only problem I have with it is that kreeli's chocolate cheesecake is too heavy for it, but for most things i've used it for its been great. I got that one with the travel cup for christmas last year and it only lasted for a month of smoothies every morning for breakfast :(.

I think mine's a braun. It works fine.

I think the main thing is to be willing to return a blender that doesn't work right. I returned two that didn't crush ice (they said they did on the box) before getting one that did.

I have a Cuisinart that I **love**...

I would look for a blender that has a glass container, as opposed to plastic. It'll last longer.

And the containers that taper down & become narrow at the bottom tend to do a poorer job of mixing things. The ones that have straight sides are much more efficient.

This is the one I have, and it crushes ice with no problem. I love it.

I don't know about the ones they make now, but the one I use is an osterizer, and it's like 35 years old and still runs great.

I don't use a blender myself but the wife has killed lots of them making those fru fru drinks and stuff. She finally bought a KitchenAid and it's been a real good one for us. They're kinda expensive but they are definitely tougher than most . . . .
