i am having to take a break from hamstering for a week or so so my knee can heal. I went ice skating thursday night with my friends Alex, Steve, and Tiff. I have known alex for 15 years, and steve i just met - he lives in teh dorm next to alex. Both of them have been playing hockey since they were 6-7. (for the record, i played street hockey for one year).

I'm really good at ice skating, you would think i wouldn't fall, right?.. well.. steve and alex decided to spray tiff and i with snow. Except Steve was on rental skates, not his skates, and his blade caught and his feet shot out from underneath him and took me down HARD. I remember being upright, then the sound of my right knee SMACKING the ice with a CRUNK. i balled up and started crying, it hurt. then iced it.. was bummed with not being able to skate it and said "screw this".. and went and skated - they laughed at me for not continuing to ice it.

well.. yesterday (pardon long winded).. my knee swelled up to twice its size. I couldn't walk. the dr. at the health center wrote me a script for darvacet. told me to ice it. wrote me an excuse out of work. told me not to hamster for a week.. i'm sad.

but my knee isn't broken, just a nice, solid purple. Since I live on the 4th floor, i was getting carried up the stairs by Steve. he feels really bad, but we are all blaming the skates and not him - if he'd been on his own skates, everything would have been fine and he would have stopped. but i want to hamster!

Ouch Raven! I feel your pain. :(

Get some rest and stay off the knee for a bit. :hugs:

@Raeven, Ouch! So sorry to hear about your accident. I'm sure you realize it would have been best to stay off it right away and continue to ice it...but I've done similar things myself. I know it's hard when you want to Hamster, but you'll get better quicker if you follow doc's orders. Why risk further injury and more time off. Take care!
