There were supposed to remove the chips prior to slaughter. The chips tracked the pigs activities. I just wonder if a human accidentally ingests the chip will they be able to track that persons activities? That leads to another question....is this really an accident or a ploy by the govenment to test their plans to take the Patriot Act to the next level. I know, paranoid thought but nothing is impossible or beneath the government. Seems like it would make a good B movie anyhow.

Recipients were notified to return meat, which will either be reinspected and cleared for use or destroyed, Malek said

They can't keep track of microchips of pigs, but they can keep track of mad-cow infections?!?!? Hmmmm.....

Nano sensors have been around for a while. There was a stomach camera/sensor array you gulped down and the doctor read data until your stomach acids destroyed it. Some vets have installed microchips in pets with your info and theirs to keep tabs on tabby. Medical history, owner name, etc. Helps ID a lost pet if the shelter that picked them up has a scanner. Some stories of parents chipping kids in case of future abductions. Although the ailens would have methods to ID the chips and neutralize them so I don't know the real usefulness of them.
GPS chips are possible but not very practical. Most chips are of limited power supply or are passive. Besides everyone has a cellphone they can't live without and they are GPS locator beacons.
If you have meat eater friends and they are concerned about chips in their meat have them take them to the airport in their hand baggage.
I have an extremely paranoid co-worker and he is convinced that tracking and telemetry chips have been placed in orange juice, soda, potato chips, basically any processed "food". We have told him that we don't particulary care where he has been or done so why would "they".

I think it is the part of the shoulder that "butts" up against the body cavity. I could be totally off base. Or it is the end of the shoulder.

dumb question, but why did it say at the end that no illnesses had been reported to the fda or whatever if the meat hadn't reached the consumer as read earlier in the article?
