i used to climb a lot, out in Arizona and Nevada. i've lost my touch since it's been a while. but i was up to par after climbing 5 days a week for almost two years. i'll get into again. but now it's paddling's turn.

..but the day when i can get back to 5.11's and not cry in frustration i'll be HAPPY!!!!!

Lots of bouldering and day climbs on 5.9s and stuff here in Southern California.

YAY! I just re-started indoor climbing this month, and I'm getting my shiny new gear this weekend so I dont have to rent smelly shoes any more. I go to one of the 3 main climbing gyms that i know of in Toronto. I used to climb in England when I was in university.

I love climbing outdoors...haven't been in a long time due to my schedule. I also don't really care much about ratings. It's the instantaneous happiness, freedom, and sense of peace that it brings that makes me crave climbing/hiking in the mountains. :sunny:

I like wall climbing! I don't think I'd ever get into actual outdoor climbing though.

My mom used to take my sister and I to the indoor wall for exercise when we were 5 and 3.

I;ve gone a couple times. there is a rock at one of the beaches that is really popular for climbing. My dad climbed all the time but then busted his knee and can't really. my brother got into it and I want to start going more.

no climbing to be had around here. the lava rock is too crumbly for safe climbing and there are no indoor walls around

thanks! :) so it was last night and i was terrified, truthfully - there were many more people than i expected. yikes! like, 100 plus i think. it was so crowded (it's a pretty small place). they would form this semi circle around you when you climbed. ah! i'll admit i did not at all feel comfortable with the pressure and people watching me, but it was a good feeling when i finshed a route/problem. they clumped all the girls together in one category and a couple did really really well. i got fourth out of ten, which iguess isn't so bad for not climbing in 2 years.

they are leaving the routes up for a while, so next week i'm going to go in and try them again. i know for a fact i can do a lot better without all the starring!

i'm glad i did it thought, even though it was a little nerve racking!

I’m primarily a ski mountaineer. I view a day out rock climbing or bouldering as fun practice for alpine climbing and scrambling, but don’t really do it as an end in itself.

Wow Funkified well done! I'm impressed. I made a girl from work come climbing yesterday and I totally sucked at it, very embarassing. My excuse is that I had to go on the bouldering wall while she took a class, so I tired myself out :)

It must feel great to get back into it after 2 years off! I only went a few times back in university but that was 8 years ago.

Funkystuff:

Was that an ABS comp? I compete all the time and love those things. It really is a great chance to push yourself to do new things and meet new people. It sounds like you liked it..?

nah, it was just some local thing, nothing official.
it was fun, and i'm glad i did it, definitely. just just scary. not a fan of so many people watching me climb, especially when it's been so long and i've lost much of my skill.
i went back the other day and they had left the same problems up so i played with those bad boys again. managed to do a lo better than at the comp :)

yeehaw!
