I wanted to share with the vegetarians on the board (sorry, this product is not vegan :-( ) a delicious roast turkey substitute we have found.

Scroll down to the "Turkey-Style Roast". This roast is incredible. It tastes exactly like turkey. Even our non-veg family members loved it. This is how I prepared it:
Follow directions on box for cooking in an oven bag. I roasted with it: Potatoes (in bite sized peices), carrots and onion. For herb mix: combine 1-2 Tbs each of olive oil and melted non-hydrogenated margarine - mix with herbs like thyme, sage, black pepper, and other poultry seasonings. Pour over roast and veggies in bag, tie bag and cook for a little more than the time on box. (This is not a very long time, about an hour if I recall?) Doing this you can create a complete thanksgiving in about an hour, if on the range top you make corn on the cob and stuffing. (nice to have pies and cranberry sauce made the day earlier.) I'm sorry to say that this tastes so much better than tofurkey that I'll have to get this instead, even though the tofurkey is vegan and the quorn roast is "only vegetarian." Not to mention this roast averages at about $5 where a tofurkey feast is more like $20. If you are skeptical, try a test run of this recipe before thanksgiving and you will be happy you did.

I wish Quorn was vegan. I do like that they specify non-meat sources for the natural flavors in their ingredients, though.
I've only had the chicken-style patties and nuggets. They were pretty good. Depending on where I am with the vegetarian-vegan interface by Thanksgiving, I might give this a try. Thanks for the heads-up!

Man, I miss quorn. Those chicken tender things were great. I made the best jumbalaya with them.

Does anyone know if Quorn is available through mail order? I've done a search and can't find a Canadian retail outlet that sells Quorn. I've had Quorn in various forms while in the UK and found it to be very, very tasty.

It's pretty small. I made one for me and my boyfriend. We had some leftovers which he ate the next day...I'd say it could feed 4 people max depending on how hungry they are.
The roast is fantastic, although I never got it to brown like it was supposed to. I tried cooking it in the oven bag, then I pulled it out for a bit to brown. It was a little dry but I made some Hain vegetarian gravy to go with it. It just freaks me out a bit how much it tastes like turkey.

I would love to try it and will have to, but I'm addicted to the Tofurky Thanksgiving roast... I've had it for years now...I will try it though...thanks.

I make it all the time, but I slice it really thin and use it like deli meat. I dont think I could eat a big hunk of it...its kind of dense? I like the quorn breaded cutlets better for special occasions.

hi, i LOVE every quorn product. especialy the southern friend burgers and the quarter pounders. If you cant find quorn, then use a tofu range. you can even get tofurky!! which is turkey made out of tofu!!! :)
If not, you can always make it your self, i dont know how, but its possible!!! :bobo:

I love Quorn brand. I found some naked cutlets near school and have reqested places at home carry them. Now they are popular with people close to home. They are like boneless chicken breast without any breading or seasoning, so you can put what you want on them. I have a lime pepper seasoning that I like. I prefer the roast to tofurky (I hate that you have to have their stuffing with it, since it's prestuffed).

Starlass, you could easily cook it for yourself and just eat it for a few days. It is not very large.
Carb lover, if it wasn't browning, I bet you didnt put enough oil/butter on it. it needs some fat to brown it. If you cook it the manner I described, it will brown a bit and taste quite delicious. Given how healthy it is anyway, adding a little oil to get your omegas isn't going to hurt you ;-)

I basted it with the olive oil recipe on the box. I didn't use margarine though. I will try that next time.

I bought some Quorn turkey a few weeks ago and have been scared to try it until just now. I cooked the turkey in the oven yesterday to see if i would want it for thanksgiving with no seasonings or anything and made a little gravy with onion, vegetable stock, flour, garlic, soy sauce, salt and pepper. It was great. But its not vegan, its vegetarian because it contains egg. I ate the turkey in thick slices with the gravy and some cranberry sauce and gave it to my whole family including my non vegetarian mom, dad, and grandma and my vegetarian sister. We all loved it and couldnt tell the difference between real turkey breast. It smelled so good! The texture was good too, but next time im using the roasting bag for some more juiciness. Overall I'd give it a 5 out of 5.

Did you serve it with stuffing, azul?

I did serve it with stuffing and mashed pots and gravy. I used a stuffing recipe from vegweb.com that was quite tasty. At first we thought we could put the stuffing in a roasting bag with the quorn roast, but it was staying very soggy, so we took it out and put that in a separate dish. I also made some gravy from a recipe I got from The Passionate Vegetarian The gravy was delish, though we had our doubt at first from its appearance. I can sure post or link the recipe if you want.
I can't even say how excited I am about this product. Seriously, turkey and mashed pots was something I thought I would have such a hard time giving up. This is my first Thanksgiving vegetarian. When I bought this at this tiny local grocer that actually sells more than a box of tofu (but not a HFS or anything. I think they are mostly a deli.), the lady behind the counter was so excited about the product too. And, since I was already buying it, and hadn't mentioned anything, I think she was pretty sincere.

Hi everyone... newbie here. Does the quorn roast really taste like turkey? And that's a good thing??? I have one in my freezer.... love the other quorn products. I don't want to eat something with a "meat taste" though- makes me sick. Does it taste like the other quorn products? Maybe they all taste like meat and it's been so long I don't even know it!?
