View Full Version : Still not losing weight
How long have you been doing this? How tall are you? Because, personally, 130 doesn't sound like very much.

Sounds like you need to exercise/tone more than diet.

I agree with Michael. I would focus more on toning then diet. You may not be eating enough calories and your body is protecting itself by slowing down your metabolism. If you are working out you need to eat more calories then a sedentary person. I'm 5'6" and I weigh around 130 pounds. Sometimes a few pounds less, sometimes a few pounds more. Up untill a month ago I was obsessed with getting down to about 125 pounds. When My Doctor told me that I was at a healthy weight and diddn't need to loose anymore pounds I stopped worring about it.
Also remember Muscle weighs more then fat and if you are working out at the Gym, you may be loosing body fat and inches but not neccesarly pounds.
I think 130 is a healthy weight for your height. I wouldent worry too much about it.

I can't believe how disgustingly obese I must seem to some people if they're obsessing over weighing 130 at 5'5.
Anyway, as I've learned, these things take time. I haven't lost a dang pound after working out at the gym for 4-5 hrs/wk for 3 mos. In fact, I've gained weight. Just gotta keep doing it. Its healthy at least.

I honestly don't think anyone would think of you as disgustingly obese. I see a lot of women I think have far better bodies than me that also happen to weigh more. We are far more critical about ourselves and its easy to feel that weightloss is the answer to a negative self-image.

A simple 3-day weightlifting workout routine that would target all parts of your body would not only make your metabolism improve, but would turn fat on your body into muscle. Remember, it takes time for results to show, but don't give up.

Check out this site for info on how to do various weightlifting moves and how to figure out a routine for yourself www.exrx.net
Also, this site will rock the socks of any woman who's into weightlifting at all. The woman who runs the site isn't a veg*n, but the lifting info is invaluable to anyone just starting out as a "serious" weightlifter. www.stumptuous.com
Once you get into it, you'll be surprised how fun it is to lift. It's very affirming to feel strong and to be able to see visible muscle.

Thanks for the link quizeen. I was looking for a good basic at home dumbbell routine and of course - she's got one! :D

Mandie,
I know how you feel. I was trying so hard to lose the last 15 pounds of my baby weight, but I wanted to do it the healthy way...by eating a healthy balanced diet, and exercising. It was excruciatingly slow... Sometimes I have felt like just giving up on the healthiness and doing Slim Fast or something...but I refuse to give up!
BTW, I agree, 130 sounds like a very healthy weight for your height. You probably look amazing, you are just being overly critical of yourself. :)

i was just about to say.. 130 at 5'5 is healthy!.. and lifting weights DOES NOT turn muscle into fat - they are two different tissues! lifting builds muscle which speeds your metabolism (as long as you are eating enough), and that, in combination with cardio burns fat.

Maybe you're just not meant to be a smaller person.
Sometimes it should be taken as a sign if you're doing all the right things to lose weight and you just don't.
Maybe you should just work on toning up, rather than dropping numbers.
If you REALLY have to lose weight, as in you go to a doctor and they say you need to to be healthy, then focus on measurements rather than a number. Some people have denser/heavier bone structures than others. You don't want to lose bone mass to fit a certain number, do ya?
