There is going to be a holocaust in the United States and the only people who will survive are those who have either agricultural skills or defense skills or both, or if the have only one, can cooperate with people that have the other one. Just about all other skills will ensure will be nearly useless. You'll need those I described, to survive.

It is important to start learning them now as the holocaust could be any time now.

Did you expect the Twin Towers of the world trade Center to suddenly crash to the ground? Probably not. Most people didn't. But they crashed anyway. Same thing in relation to the holocaust. You don't think it will happen; but I know it will. How do I know it will? I dreamed it, and I could tell from the dream that it was one of those dreams that will come true.

Do I need to buy duct tape?

Kiz

Of course you have to buy duct tape! That is, if you don't already have some.

Thankfully, living in Australia, I don't have to worry about this. Uh.. Australia wasn't in your dream was it Soilman?

Soilman, what are the particulars of this dream? I must confess that I have a hard time believing there's going to be a holocaust in this country any time soon, especially after surviving the Ronnie Ray-Gun 80s.

I'm okay with this holocaust either way, so long as Bush doesn't get reelected.

Well, I'm not sure about the holocaust statement but... I think I can see soilman's point (somewhat). Unless we blow ourselves to bits I do believe there will come a time (eventually) when people will have to provide for themselves and won't be able to because they will have become so accustomed to having everything done for them.

A person at work and I like to guess which customers would be the first to go if one day American money were to no longer be worth anything.

We drove through rural Alabama & Georgia this weekend on our "escape Frances" roadtrip. My husband was telling me I could only go to the grocery once a month if we lived out there. I told him we could grow & can most of our own stuff if we lived out in the boonies with a bunch of land.

Soilman, best pick up that Ruger carbine ASAP then. There's just nothing quite like a firearm when those pesky societal breakdowns come around . . .

Bank: "Soilman, best pick up that Ruger carbine ASAP then. There's just nothing quite like a firearm when those pesky societal breakdowns come around . ."

I agree. Tho for out in the wilderness, I'd probably want a long-range rifle, in addition.

I got arraigned recently for a misdemeanor, driving w/o a license or driving while license was suspended i'm not sure (it was 10 years ago so i don't remember what happened), so maybe I'll have to get someone else to buy the firearm and leave it at my house for safe keeping, until my legal aid lawyer clears this up?

Tho for the last 8 years or so I have been practicing growing my own food but I still don't have good experience preserving food, without a freezer; I've been depending on a freezer operated by electricity produced by the military-industrial system which is going to collapse.

Have you been canning, soilman?

*Grows,cans,shoots,rides,doctors.....doesn't need squat....* Heh..can even make my own moonshine or herbal relief. Lassier Bon Temps Roulette-!....Oh, and my veggie friends and omni's are welcome to hole up till we rebuild society out in my parts. My basement has almost everything for a hospital including I.V. sets, fluids, catheters, sterile packs with instruments, sterile drapes, a microscope, centrifuge, trach tubes, etc...etc.. Surrounded for miles by state parks, and carefully selected for defense location into a hillside. Not like I'm ummmm...paranoid or anything..*twitch*...

Really Tash?

No mikie, I haven't been canning. I have been depending on my freezer and the government own electric generating company.

Anyone familiar with building freezers from scratch? Perhaps with ammonia refrigerant? Or other refrigerant, and fuel, we can make ourselves?

Economically speaking, soilman is probably on to something here. The history of fiat money is not a proud one (economic collapse is invariably the end result). Too bad the US government just HAD to try that fixed exchange rate thing back in the 70's (which allowed European nations to loot our gold reserves by inflating their own currency). Next time, Just Say No!

Meh. Count me in the non-survivor's camp. I don't think my programming skills would be too useful in a society without computers (or electricity to run them).

soilman
September 7th, 2004, 10:04 PM
I'm not saying people should stop learning things other than agriculture, food, clothing, and shelter, and defense, or stop earning a living as computer programmers or whatever. I'm just saying they will need agriculuture, food, clothing, shelter, or defense skills, whether they have these skills alone, or addition to their computer skills or banking knowledge or whatever.

So when you say Holocaust, are you meaning like an actual one, or just PETA going nuts with their "Holocaust on your plate" campaign?

Anyway, so who's going to be starting this thing? Am I involved? Do I start it?
