Since going vegan I miss miss miss the yummy, smooth, rich hazelnutty Nutella I used to love! Are there any good vegan substitutes out there?

Does nutella have dairy? I've never eaten it. You might try searching for some recipes. What's in the jarred stuff? How is it "described" on the jar?

The jarred stuff is definitely not vegan, I've looked. I think it's got milk. I miss it too! :grr: I used to dip animal crackers in it. Yum!

Sugar, vegetable oils, hazelnuts (13%), cocoa, milk, skimmed-milk powder (5%), milk proteins, lecitine (emulsifying agent), natural flavours.
Found here (http://members.tripod.com/~NutellaFans/strange.html).
ETA: Oops! We posted at the same time Christy!

I bet you could mix up hazelnuts, soy milk, cocoa & sugar and get pretty much the same thing. It wouldn't be shelf stable, but it should work.

If you do a google search there appears to be some recipies. But apparently there also is a product called Chocoreale that is similar to Nutella and vegan. Product reviews are here:

I'm gonna have to figure out a way to get that!

not IMHO :lick:
Alfiedog ~ I just went to that site, it looks great and for some reason since it is made in Europe I think it's more likely to taste good... :) I'm with you, if anyone figures out how to order the stuff I'll be the first to try it!

I used to eat crepes with nutella and banana slices... Mmmm. Of course, crepes are typically made with egg, so those are out anyway, though surely there's a vegan recipe somewhere!

Yeah, I gave up. Too damn slow to navigate that site. I'm sticking with veganessentials for now. Wonder if they sell it...

This makes me very sad that I ate all my Chocoreale because I really want to try this.

I thought I had a Bryanna Clark Grogan recipe as well, but I can't seem to find it online.
ETA: I also have a recipe for making your own chocolate hazelnut spread at home that is far superior to both Nutella and Chocoreale, although a bit more labor intensive (far less so, however, if you buy your hazelnuts already peeled and roasted). I'll post that as well when I have a chance.

crepes make just fine w/ soy milk and ener-g egg replacer :) Just use your normal recipe, and make substitutions!
