Does it taste good? There are rumors that they're phasing out the hydrogenated version (not sure if that's true), so the non-hydrogenated stuff had better be good!!

I didn't know about this, but thanks for alerting me. I'll see if our co-op has the new stuff. I never liked the old kind -- maybe the new will be better.

From what I've heard, the new one is supposed to be slightly more tart. The hydrogenated one is pretty sweet IMO (is that why you don't like it?), but I like it well enough, so I hope the new one is not disappointing!

Yup, the sweetness -- also it tastes too soy-ish for me. Like spreading sweet tofu on your bagel or whatever.
On the other hand, that might be good...

Yeah, I've had the non-hydro version, it's okay, it does taste a bit different, the texture is a little more mushy, a lot less thick than the original. I haven't had the original in a long time though, so it's not like I really remember the differences that strongly.

Ack!! Tell me it's not true! I love the original, but I hated the non-hydro! I know it's better for you, but when you can't stand eating it there's no point! I bought it once because they were out of the original, and it was just...like...eating paste or something. I don't really remember now, but I know it was gross. I had to mix it with some of the original just so I'd finish it up.
...but that's just me. Maybe they've changed the recipe by now.

Are we talking about the Better than Cream Cheese stuff? As a new veggie, I find it delicious. It tastes like regular cream cheese and, dare I say, even better? :lick: The container says non-hydrogenated and I think that's part of the reason I bought it.

It's definitely not as good as the original, but it's still decent. I've tried some brands of soy/rice cream cheese substitutes that I wouldn't serve to my worst enemy, and the Tofutti non-hydro version isn't anywhere near that level of nastiness. I adore the french onion version of their regular recipe and will be willing to give a non-hydro version of that a shot if they start making it.

i thought it was fine, not much different from the original, but i have only used it in recipes. i don't care for cream cheese by itself.

I never liked the cream cheese anyway, but I have tried the non-hydrogenated Tofutti sour cream, and I like it just as much as the hydrogenated kind. It does tend to spoil more quickly once it's opened in the fridge than before, but that's okay with me. We go through it pretty fast.

it tastes about the same to me... I love the stuff...
the HFS I work at recently stopped selling anything and everything that had hydrogenated oil in it!!
