Stinky Cat Pee On My Expensive Rug!!!

Everyone knows how stinky cat pee is and how it lingers forever. I need help! Does anyone know how I can get this awful smell out of my rug...for good? Please help.~Amanda

Use an enzyme based pet-odor cleaner.

But test a little spot first, as some of them will eat through rugs (I learned the hard way)!

Baking soda is good for absorbing oders. Never tried it for cat pee though.

I'm in the same situation as you are, Amanda, but at least the stinky cat pee is on a cheap carpet. I was fortunate enough to be able to pull it up off the floor. I cleaned it with a vinegar, dish soap and water mixture, scrubbed the hell out of it and hung it outside to dry. To my nose, the smell has disappeared but I'm still afraid to put the carpet back down because my peecat will surely try it again! In my experience, once they pee on a specific spot, it's hard to get them to stop. I just try to block off that area from the offending cat and make sure to keep the litter box spotless.

I had to just put Wilber outside. The problem is that he crys at night and wants to come in and when I let him in, he goes on the rug-everytime. So sorry kitty-No more night night in Mommys house....

I hate the pee on expensive carpet!! I used stuff from the pet store and while it worked, it spread the stain! Now I use a mixture of 1 cup peroxide, 1 tbl baking soda and 1 tsp dish soap. Mix it up and blot with a sponge. Works well but test your rug first. My carpet is light and it's fine. Not sure about colors!! BEWARE

Nature's Miracle works great. He likely keeps using the rug because he can still smell the pee. Also, have him checked for an infection. That's a leading cause of cats peeing outside their litter box.
