Personally I haven't found any of the natural variety that I really liked. I heard Revlon doesn't test. I've used their red dyes before and liked them.

Yeah, Clairol has been the best for me too, and that's what I use. They are owned by Proctor and Gamble though, so we can probably assume they test. Sigh!

Although this brand doesn't lighten hair and it isn't found in stores, the last time I checked they didn't test on animals and the dyes also don't contain amonia, alcohol or peroxide (AKA the stuff that's really bad for your hair). I haven't tried it yet but I will the next time I need dye :) I figured I'd post it for anyone else who's interested.

If you want an unnatural color, go with special effects... The color lasts FOREVER.. Vegan Essentials sells a limited number of colors, but Hair Crazy (http://www.haircrazy.com) sells more and has a gallery of pics so you know what it will most likely turn out like.
Manic Panic is not vegan (beeswax) but not tested. I've got After Midnight Blue in right now, and even over unbleached hair, it looks awesome and well, it turns heads!!
Henna is really good, but you can't bleach or dye your hair until it grows out or you cut it all off..
I agree with the revlon thing, but I also am clueless about the veganness of it all..

I don't know if this dye is any good, but I saw it in the Organic Style Magazine, which is:

www.shikai.com

or look it up on www.lifesvigor.com (I ordered Zoe Foods bars from them and they came, so I know it's a good place to order)

And I have dyed my hair before using Loreal, Clairol, etc. I've always wanted purple hair, but never had the guts to dye it that color. I've tried burgundy, which is pretty close though and loved it. Ah, the hair dye days, lol. That's back when I didn't know about natural stuff, I was oblivious until using the Internet.

Best wishes!

According to their website, L'Oreal hasn't tested on animals since 1989. I'm not sure whether or not their ingredients are vegan. I'm also not sure if Feria will lighten your hair enough. Also keep in mind that Feria is intended to be bold (aka unnatural looking). You should probably call their help number (or the help number of whatever company you go with) before you try anything.

Scruples, it's a Salon line. It has a line called "Urban Shock" and they are all really punky. The rep and distributors claim it is all plant based!

I had really good results with revlon. i just used clariol. That smelled so horrible that I had to keep my head in my shirt the whole time while my mom worried she was going to pass out. Color looks good though.

I've heard henna is really risky. I looked into it, and decided against it.
