I have recently discovered Stonewall's Jerquee and I am addicted!!! So good, and high in protien and iron. I have never had "real" jerky, so I have no idea if it is comparable - but it is really good!

Does anyone know if this is vegan? They sell it at veganessentials and it appears to be vegan by the ingredient list, but it says it is vegetarian and animal free. Why wouldn't they market it as vegan? am I missing something?

here is the website - - - > www.soybean.com

Looking at the ingredients, it *looks* vegan. But for a veg*n company to not mark it vegan makes me suspicious, just like you. I would send them an e-mail!

Vegan is a scary word to some people. I've heard comments from people that were similar to "Vegetarians are alright, but those vegans are just crazy". Marketing something as "completely vegetarian" would, from the company's perspective, make their products reach a larger audience. Anyway... yes, it's vegan.

I love the original flavor... the spicy ones, not so much. But yeah. Yummy stuff. :lick:

ETA: it says vegan on this page: http://www.soybean.com/snack_ecart.htm

"Try any of our fabulous vegan snacks. Any way you go, we're sure you will love 'em. They're not only meatless -- they're good for you, too!"

Yeah, I love Stonewall Jerque (original flavors only). Better than all the other immitation jerque out there IMO. It's vegan.

I'm thinking of placing an order because I can't find it in any of the stores around here anymore! hmph!

Has anyone tried the Cajun Bacon Jerquee or any of the Cajun Jerky before? Is it good? I'm curious about it, but don't want to buy a box of it if it sucks.

I like the Wild, Original, Pepperoni and sometime Teriyaki, but hate the Chicken and Pastrami.

I didn't care too much for the texture. But I love Tofurky Jurky. :lick:

This is so true! When working with some crowds, I have been billed as a "Pure Vegetarian Chef" or even as an "Organic" Chef when presenting Raw & Living Foods or Traditional (but vegan-ized) Catering. This scares less people away than the "Vegan" word can, bringing more people who are open to the food and accepting psychologically that the food CAN be tasty and satisfying, when so many have a "block" to accepting that is is possible to enjoy vegan food (even though most people have a food or recipe or two that is vegan and they enjoy it, since they are omni's they seem to not term those foods as "vegan" or view those foods in the same light when they eat them such as pasta with marinara sauce hummus, guacamole and so on).
That way, after they have tried it, enjoyed it and complimented you on it, you can extol its benefits with delight!

"Oh, I am so glad you enjoy it. I do as well, because being that it is 100% Organic and completely animal-free (or cruelty-free) it is a more conscious choice in addition ot being delectable and good for you!"

By the way, you can rehydrate the jerky and use it in cooking. It's great for camping food in that way. Think stews and such...

Also, it makes killer rolled tacos, but takes some rehydrating and mincing and adding other stuff...it's good for children and teenagers...I have "fooled" them with it before...I didn't lie and sya they were meat, but I made them for them and they wolfed them down, much to their mothers delight and suprise and now they eat them all the time instead of animals! YAY! Another Vegan Victory! :vebo:

Does anyone know if they sell vegan jerky in stores? Shipping charges suck.

The only stores I've found it sold in are health food stores. (we don't have any Whole Foods or Trader Joes or places like that around here).

I agree, that stuff is good! (except for the spicy one...too spicy for me). I believe it is vegan.
