i'm sure these have been mentioned here before, but i just had to say...

neatballs + mushroom gravy =

i buy cheapo canned mushroom gravy and just dump both into a pot and heat on medium til the gravy starts to bubble and the neatballs are heated through. i'm enjoying them with some lentil pilaf right now :wayne:

I've never bought the neatballs before because it always seemed like too much money for too few meatballs (I think that they sell for around 4.99 Cdn.) How many neatballs do you get in a pack?

umm i think like 18. i don't buy them very often cause they are kinda pricey but a serving is 4 according to the package so if you're the only one eating them they make for a few meals. plus the gravy makes them more filling.

i've tried them in spagetti and tomato sauce too, equally yummy.

i mostly buy them when i'm having a tough time getting my protein cause 4 is something like 11g but i'll usually have 5 or 6 at a time, so there's a decent amount of protein without having to eat a lot of soy in one meal

I don't care for them at all. They're ... rubbery!

I like Nate's much more. :smitten:

whozits? there are very few brands of meat substitutes available here, wether in all of Canada or Ontario i don't know but where i live, yes. so yeah this is the only brand of 'meat'balls i've tried.
how did you cook them that they went rubbery? if you microwaved them i can see that, the breakfast links go rubbery in the microwave but are amazing fried. i cook the neatballs either in the gravy on the stove, or in a pan with a bit of oil if i'm having them with pasta. even reheated in the microwave i didn't find them rubbery, though sometimes the texture goes a little grainy.

I've never had this brand, but I do love Nate's. No place around here carries Yves anymore, so I have to drive almost an hour if I want their stuff. :(

I love em... I like Morningstar's better, but usually get Yves. I always microwave them (covered in pasta sauce) and haven't experienced any rubbery taste. I usually cut them in half first.

I've heard of Neatballs but never found them in Canada. The only meat subsitutes I seem to find are Boca nuggets and patties, Garden burgers and many types of veggie dogs, plus TVP at the local health store in nuggets and shreds (prefect for tacos:drool:)

The ones I have from Yves aren't called "Neatballs", they just say "The Good Meatballs". I think some people just call them that to differentiate between veggie meatballs and meat meatballs. My mom calls them wheatballs.

I'm also in Canada. I haven't tried Yves' yet but I want to. President's Choice also makes fakes meatballs. Both are somewhat expensive but I've been craving a meatball sub lately. Funny, I never ate meatball subs as a carnivore!!!
