Yay!!! I'm back!!!! :hamster:

Okay... well, I'm back in the U.S., anyway. I'll be back to my hamstering ways today when I go to the gym AND I go to dance class! It will be my first real exercising in just over a month, so I'll probably take it easy, but I'm sooooo excited!!! Yesterday I mostly just recovered from my jet lag (or tried to recover... the fact that I'm wide awake at 3am is a testament that the time difference hasn't quite been fixed...), though I did get in a five mile brisk walk. :)

Hope all you hamsters have a fabulous week! It's good to be back!!!

ack, i've been bad about posting.

so far this week:

yesterday: 4mi walk.

today: 30min yoga.
90min bikeride.
maybe a little walking. plus i need to clean the whole house and as humid as it is here that should get me sweating it up quite a bit.

I'm trying to learn how to swim. Yesterday, spent 1 hour of semi-successful back floating and pushing myself with arms and legs (mostly arms; I can't figure out the legs and arms motion). Basically, it was float/swim for 1 minute, lose my balance and crash into the water, stand up, rinse, wash, repeat.

I did full body strength today - I'm doing my abs later. I'm going swimming as well, yay :) :)

Just did taekwondo again- been going about a month and a half now and can really feel the difference. I can touch my toes with the palm of my hand! Felt I was keeping up a lot more with the more experienced people! Feel good. (this is after having food poisoning 2 days ago)

I will get better at swimming, right? :worried:

Yeah it just takes practice- and once you learn you don't forget. Get some goggles. Have fun and enjoy the water. Dive bombs are cool and underwater handstands and stuff. Maybe learn to tread water. Get your confidence up in other words...

I haven't been in a few years and I aint a great swimmer but I can swim okay. I used to be able to do several lengths- and I could have built it up to more- but never did. It's more fun splashing about. (was a kid at the time like)

Just put your head back and float on your back. Don't worry about kicking at first- just get used to the feeling.

I'm not a :hamster: , but Budda did drag me on a 14 mile bike ride yesterday. O.K., O.K. -- it was fun. We rode along the Katy trail, which is an old railroad right of way that has been converted to a bike path/state park. The scenery was beautiful, and we saw lots of little wildlife. Best of all, we ended up at my favorite winery, which has a fabulous view, eating bread and hummus and drinking sparkling grape juice. (After getting a little buzz from the wine tasting. :D ) That last part wasn't really on topic for the hamster thread, was it? :worried:

Exercise with a buzz on, huh? Perhaps I've been going about this all the wrong way....

Tamilee Webb Arms & Abs of Steel - 15 min
treadmill - 2.25 miles, 3.5/4 mph, speed/incline intervals - 35:36 min

I felt ok, not like I'd lost any cardiovascular or muscular fitness. I've slacked for basically 2 weeks, minus a workout last week. (Sick one week, very busy the next.) Hopefully I can resume and continue to progress.

Hey Hamsters!
Sat. 8 mile run and Sun. mountain biking. Well, we don’t have mountains here, just hills. I don’t know how far we went either because we had no odometer, but we were out for about 2 hours…partly because we got lost for a while. We were on an off road trail in the national forest…and our map turned out not to be as good as we thought. Fun stuff! :hamster:

Captain, great run! When is your next marathon?

Flower, you’re doing such an awesome job! Great!

Great to hear it brownie! I gave myself a pedicure Fri night and got blisters on my toes because of it Sat. morning on my run. Hurts like hell to run with stuff like that! An ingrown toenail must have been a killer!

Yay! Mskedi is back!! Nice to see you. So, are you going to tell us more about your trip? How about some pics? Glad you’re back! :hi:

catswym, sounds like your doing great! Way to go!

Kristadb, is someone helping you with this swimming thing? Or are you doing this on your own? Can you hold your breath and go under? That is the biggest thing for a lot of people. Learning to tread water is another important technique. Can you float on your back in one place without moving? The biggest fear of most when floating on the back is getting water in your ears or having your face go under a bit. That is one of the reasons feeling comfortable with your face in the water is important. Yes, it will get easier! But it will take time. I think it’s great that you’re doing this! Very brave of you!

Cissy, Great Hamstering! Sorry you couldn’t get a swim in…I know how you feel though, we’ve hardly had any good warm days for swimming.

kat, sorry to hear about the food poisoning! That sucks. Great work on the tae kwon do!

mikie, :hi:

Well mouse! How nice to see you here! Wow, that sounds like a great ride…and a wine tasting to boot, now that’s my kind of bike ride! Ooops…I mean, well, I like wine. Hehehehe. O’ and can I ask where the heck budda is. We kind of miss him here when he’s gone.

christy, great job! I wouldn't worry, taking a few weeks off probably won't affect you much at all.

Go Hamsters! :vebo: :vebo: :vebo:

slynny - What do you do for a blister and still run? Cover it with a bandaid? Does that keep it from getting rubbed by your shoe?

brownie - I missed your post about an ingrown toenail. Those suck! I had one that got infected (because I couldn't quit picking at it). I would put some tea tree oil and warm water into my heated foot massager, and that really helped. It lasted so long that I hurt my back walking to compensate for it and keep my toe from hitting the ground.

I suffered through it. I was out in the middle of nowhere. No bandaids till I got back...and I had to get back:D But yes then I would wear a bandaid:)

I went to the beach today, but not too much swimming because the water was freezing, other than that I walked around a lot downtown. Tomorrow I'm going to bike back to the gym like I did yesterday!
Have a good week Hamsters! :hamster:

My bf is helping me. When I stop being afraid of the water, I may take some classes. Right now, I can hold my breath and go under, but I can only for like 5 seconds tops. It still gives me the willies. I've just learned how to float on my back without moving. Then I started to learn how to move my arms, while on my back, and move that way. My arms hurt a lot today; I was trying very hard yesterday

I can't figure out how to breath properly and I choke on water a lot. My bf suggested a nose plug and goggles until I get more comfortable. He found it helped him a lot (he's a strong swimmer).

Thanks for the encouragement. I've always been deathly afraid of water (despite growing up on the beach next to the ocean). But, I'm turning 30 in 11 months and learning to swim is on my list :D

<<<< finally is back on the workout-wagon. Sickness, bike accidents...arggh!

Today = gobs of biking in short bursts, bout 15-16 miles total.
lots of walking/climbing/handwaving/screaming/sweating at the Kerry rally :)
30 minutes on the eliptical
15 minutes rowing machine

I started to do some of the Cybex, but it hurt like hell. How long should a sprain take to heal?

Way to go all you hamsters! :)

Flower, Great run! We were biking in the Nicolet National Forest in Oconto Co.
We got a little vacation place up there not to long ago and now we spend almost every weekend up there. It's so beautiful! :sunny:

IamJen, nice to see you back again! Sorry to hear you had a bike accident. I had one myself not to long ago....ouch. Glad things are improving. :hamster:
