I am so SICK of people going on insane diets or exercise programs or WHATEVER just to try and achieve this sick culture's idea of beauty!! NO ONE should ever have to starve themselves because they saw some sick, dimensionally-incorrect actress or singer on the cover of a magazine and suddenly saw themselves as socially inept because they DON'T WEIGH THE SAME AS A TWIG!!! You know what? Stop believing what the media tells you: That you're fat, ugly, stupid, and go buy a vegan cookie!!! Throw away your scale, flip the royal-digit at whoever tries to change you, and go buy that extra pound of Tofutti that you've always wanted. They don't own you, don't let them think they do.
Okay. I'm done now.

Most people that starves themselved don't do it just because they see thin people on TV, it's generally much deeper than that.

^^^ true, true.
Also, as for me, the "thin" craze isn't a big one. I've had food issues in the past, and at times I find myself reverting back to it, but it's not about being skinnyskinny. The issues I have with my body image center around my body's weight distrubution. Everything goes to my middle. Nowadays, when i see women flaunting their *ahem* assets, and being "bootylicious", that's when i feel bad about myself, not when i see some waif in a magazine.
I really don't know the point in all that...I guess I'm saying that not all body issues are about the stick-thin celebrities.

Regardless on what the issue is, my point was that it's not always for vanity's sake.

I think a lot of the fad diets are about vanity. It's different when it's an eating disorder. It's a huge emotional issue.

I'm not into all this weightloss crap. Many people feel the need to diet, simply because they want society to accept the way they look. And it's all this dieting which I can't stand, particularly the shallow reasoning behind much of it.

ive always felt a need to be thin..not as a result of society tho..
when i was younger..i lost alot of weight...from stress and such..
the mother and everyone else was always tellin me how skinny i was...that id blow away in the wind..
ive had kind of a weight obsession since then..
tryin to get over it tho....leads to more trouble than i think its worth...

And sometimes, people don't want to lose weight for society or for anyone else, but simply cuz they want to...

I want to get into shape, not for society and vanity junk though, but for me. I hate when people do it for other people and to be accepted. Society shouldn't judge people like that and I think diets for vanity are stupid and sometimes even dangerous. Society sucks.

I hate society.
I hate that I'll never fit into our standard of beauty because of my skin color. People'll say I'm cute or w/e but it's not what's considered beautiful or what'll ever be considered beautiful here.
That is so disgustingly lame.

Just curious, what's your skin color?
People always diss pale people, of which I am one, but I love it. :smitten: Pale people are perrrdy.

people should never be judged by their skin color and hair color or eye color or w/e
sometimes i wish everyone was colorblind, then we wouldn't have that problem
and being fat or skinny doesn't always depend on you, i mean it's good to be in shape if you can control it - you feel better, but if you're fat by nature there isn't much you can do about it, and you definetly shouldn't kill yourself over it.
i don't even know why i'm talking i should go to sleep

Well, I posted this right after I was in a anorexic posting (On another site.) board. It just made me feel so sad for the people that were worshiping straw-thin models on magazine covers and talking about how they were so imperfect compared to them.....

the media seems to have brainwashed a number of people into thinking that being a tall, promiscuous, dimwitted blonde is the equivalent of beauty. it isn't just the media, though; people need to wise up and think for themselves.

it's not always about being what society and the media actually wants. for some people it's being comfortable with yourself, but some people think that they need to go to the extreme to be happy with how they look. many people with eds have many different reasons on why they are trying to starve for perfection. and yes like someone said, it does go deeper than who's on a magazine and what people look like on tv. it is a mental disease.

It's kinda... caramel/honey toned I guess. Darker now 'cause a) I live in NYC, home of gross summer humid 90 degree weather and b) I just got back from California lol.
It's kinda sad because you'll never see brown folks being perceived as beautiful. Only if they straighten their hair, even even still they're too curvy, or too skinny in some cases (me), facial features too prominent..
BAH! I say.

warheart, I disagree. I see a lot of prominent dark beauty in pop culture today.

my past and current issues with food have been about control, not fully image. I restricted myself because at that point in time it was the only thing I could control and make sense out of. Sadly, when you create a habbit like that, your mind doesn't always rationalize that you're hungry, even when you dont' need the device any more. At least in my experience. I always thought pro-athletes, like swimmers, had the best bods, not Kate Moss, or who ever the hell.
