Anyone here suffer from this? I suspect I may have it but my tests don't support it even though I have most all the symptoms...Any advice?

what are your symptoms? what do your 'tests' say?

what i know about it is that you are an-ovulatory, have low estrogen, is often occupanied by overweight or underweight and extra body hair. it's one of the things my doc was concerned with me having when i was having female issues last year. luckily i don't have it.

My gyno had suggested it to me last year when I was having irregular periods, hair loss, and depression. I don't buy it though, because my periods are pretty much back to normal after finally getting off of the pill after eleven years. I still suffer from depression, but I don't think it has to do with PCOS. My hairloss has been confirmed as a result of an auto immune disorder by way of a scalp biopsy.
Many of the symptoms can also be symptoms for other problems. Did your doc check your hormone levels? How about your thyroid ?

I was just daignosed as I was trying to get pregnant a few years ago but suspect it's onset was about 6 years ago when I started gaining uncontrollable weight. I was working out every day. I was barely eating yet gaining gaining gaining and feeling exhausted to boot. My periods started getting less and less frequent. I grew some odd hair... in some odd places.

I WAS able to conceive by cutting WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back on my soy intake. ANd taking glucaphage (as pcos sometimes mimics diabetes and my nuimbers were wierd- it worked!).

As I'm nursing I'm currently not taking anything for the pcos. I stay away from too much soy and too many bad carbs which helps (I have chronic fatigue and it is helped by diet too). My last ultrasound during pregnancy showed that my ovaries were covered with cysts but still had many available follicles so my condition isn't too bad.

Why are you cutting back on soy? I have PCOS and never cut back on the soy? Ahh! What did your doctor say was wrong with it?

Soy screws w/ your estrogen levels. I was having a soy latte in the am, usually something w/ soy in it at lunch and sometimes dinner. TOO MUCH SOY! My doctor didn't mention diet at all...

I did my own research on my own diet and what changes may help. And it did. A lot.

Ahh...okay, I had a hysterectomy and take estrogen now...I wonder if my soy intake is messing with it. Hard to tell anymore. Thanks

I have it, was diagnosed, finally, about 6 months ago, but I've definitly had this since my teen years. Right now I'm controlling through diet (vegan, very low in refined carbs, and I try to eat some protein every time I eat), exercise (at least 5 hours a week, or more), and Birth controll pills (I may stop these soon, but need to find a different contraception.) The diet and exercise combo has finally kicked what had become extremely severe fatigue--I was sleeping 15-16 hours a day.

I would suggest you pop over to http://www.soulcysters.net/ there are lots of good articles, including information on testing and diagnosing PCOS, and lots of women so someone is bound to be in your shoes and able to give some advice.

I have PCOS. I am so confused about soy. My endocronologist didn't have a definitive answer about soy. I'm thinking that I will quit eating soy for a few months and see how I do.

BTW, I too gained an insane amt. of weight in a short time, have hirsutism, and only menstruate every 3-4 months. I'm currently taking Yasmin which is a low androgen birth control pill (I quit gaining weight as soon as I switched to it). I also just started taking Metformin to help with the insulin resistance.

cheech, there's a much newer thread on the subject here: http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=80737

You're probably more likely to find some answers there. :)
