I found a soy free vegan meat sub thats low calorie and super high protein! YAY!
I was shopping for free range meat for the husband and found Field Roast Deli Slices right there with the turkey. So glad to see a meat substitute sold right there with the meat instead of in its own special section.
I tried the Wild Mushroom slices by itself tonight and it was pretty good, although slightly grainy. I think it would be excellent in a sandwich. I have the Lentil deli slices in my fridge too, I'll let you guys know if it's any good.

Oh I love the smoked tomato - I just finished a lunch that included some.
I had some of their celebration roast for Thanksgiving last year. It felt good to have something hearty to drown in gravy beyond potatoes. Yum.

Oooh, I've never seen that before. Hmm, I wonder if they even sell that in CT. Is it really high in sodium?

I know some Whole Foods stores on the east coast have field roast, it is pretty good. I for one am glad that the meat subs are in a different place, I prefer being able to avoid going to the meat section.

i prefer they be away from the meat, too, though i wouldn't even consider field roast a meat substitute.

It's very very good when baked in the oven, wrapped in tinfoil, drowned in some gravy-type juices. MmmMm!

The reason I thought it was cool to see it sold in the meat section is because I think it gets noticed more by the general population which might help to reduce overall meat consumption.

Remind me not to get lentil sage, I am a big fan of sodium.

So, this stuff is pre-cooked? Can I just buy some sliced and use it on sandwiches or what?

For those with questions

I really like field roast, I just wish it wasn't so expensive. It's worth every penny, but on my tight budget, it's hard to justify the expense, even for a delicious sandwich.

They have sandwich slice versions too. You'd want to use them.
If you got one of the tubes and sliced them you'd have to slice it pretty thin (unless you cooked it and ate it warm) because it's pretty dense. Have you had tofurky? It's a bit like that.
